Presbyterians Slate Dinners To View Plans Salem Presbyterians ' will " spend one of five evenings next week in a consideration of First Church's program and budget for 1953-54. This is leading up to the every member canvass and Loyalty Sun day on March 1. The program next week follows division of the church membership into divisions by residential areas, These strips stretch across the city from east to west. . Legislation Gets Action ByJPresbytery The Presbytery of Willamette agreed Wednesday to support the state legislative civil liberties bill and the bill which would place pari-mutuel betting revenues into the general fund, but opposes the removal of television and radio li quor advertisement regulations. These resolutions were adopted at the religious group's meeting in Mill City. The Presbytery includes some 30 churches. . Of the gambling revenue-general fund proposal, the group said "This will end the false identifi cation of the welfare of fairs and character - building agencies with the perpetuation of gambling : of horses and dogs.. "We deplore," i the Presbytery resolution said, "the action of the Liquor Control Board in removing all time limitation on liquor ad vertising . . . we urge ... a bill . . . prohibiting any radio or TV program advertising liquor during day and early evening hours,, at least until 8 pjn." In another action the meeting commended Sen. Douglas Yeater of Marlon County for introducing a proposal to abolish capital pun ishment It directed a study of the problem by churches. On Monday and' Tuesday more than 20 teams of visitors made scores of evangelistic calls that resulted in many conversions and decisions for the church." Friends Meet Today Recalls Marion Story . A quarterly meeting of Friends Churches of this area is slated for today in Marion, the first in that church for 40 years, although it was the first Friends group In the Salem area. The second quarterly meeting was held at Marion 60 years ago' this month. The program today will Include worship at 10.-30 and business at 1:30. Members are expected to attend from Highland and South Salem churches in Salem, Scotts Mills, Rosedale, Medf ord, Talent and Sprague River, as well as the new-1 est meeting at Eugene. Jefferson Cfiiirch Groups to Hear Choir at Talbot Statesman Mews Service JEFFERSON The Rev. George L. Ford, Northwest Regional di rector of the National Association of Evangelicals, will bring the morning message at the Evangel ical Brethren Church, meeting for Sunday school and worship service in the grade school gym. Ford will speak on Korea and the needs there as well as presenting the work of the association.
