The Dallas Drags, currently S- aring the league lead with the olalla Indians draw the easiest assignment of the lot, for Gordy Kunke's surprising Polk County crew takes on the last-place Canby Cougars at Dallas. Canby shares the league basement with Mt. Angel, both having one win against five losses. Dallas has won five, lost one to keep abreast the pre season favored Molalla quint Budd Gronquist's Molalla club has its work cut out for itself, for the Indians play second place Wood burn at Woodburn. Mush Barbour's Bulldogs have won four of their first six. Silvertoa Flays Sandy Milt Ba urn's Silverton Silver Foxes have a rugged assignment also, for they play the Sandy Pioneers at Silverton. Sandy has proved to be plenty tough at times and owns a 3-3 record to date. Silverton has won two, lost three. The fourth game sends the Mt. Angel Preps, fresh from upsetting Silverton last week, to Estacada to play the Rangers. Estacada has won two, lost three, and Truman Osburn's team is a tough one when flaying at home. Gene Barrett's reps now feel that they've found the range after beating Silverton and expect to be a winner from here in. Incomplete scoring statistics for thr league show that Don Meyers of Sandy is out in front after six games with 114 points, an average of 19 per contest. In second place with 82 points in five games is Molalla's Dave Hagen. Herb Bran- dli of Dallas has 72 points in six fames and Ed Hopp of Sandy has 1 in the same amount of trips. Jim Zauner of Mt. "Well go for youth as long as we can win," Boudreau told a fathering of baseball writers Mon ay. The Timberwolves. out in front with a perfect 8-0 mark, play the Detroit cagers at Detroit. The lat ter outfit has been able to win only two of eight starts to date. At the same time the Saints and their 7-1 record will be at Gates to play the Pirates who have been able to win but three of eight. The third place Jefferson Lions are apt to find things much rough er in their Tuesday game, however, for they go against the Chemawa Braves at Chemawa. The Braves are hard to beat at home. Jeff has a 5-3 record, Chemawa 3-5. The fourth league game Tuesday night has the Oregon School for the Deaf (2-6) at Gervais to play the Cou gars who have won four of their first eight games. In the individual scoring race only five players have surpassed the 100 points mark after eight games. They are, in order, Ron Ruef of Sublimity with 143, Roy Chase of Mill City with 132, Herb Romey of Gates with 119 and the Smith Brothers of St. Paul, George with 117 and Sam with 109. House Given Hunting Bill A bill to allow the Oregon gov ernor to set the dates of elk and deer hunting seasons will be in troduced soon by Rep. Loran Stewart, Cottage Grove lumber man. Seasons now are set by the State Game Commission. The gov ernor has only the power to close forests to all entry when there are fire hazards. When there are forest fire haz ards when the hunting seasons are about to open, there generally is disagreement between the game commission and the governor Last year the governor closed Western Oregon forests, leaving Eastern Oregon open. G Gertie - i Negotiations For 49ers Cut By Owners SAN FRANCISCO UT Negoti ations with a Cleveland syndicate for purchase of the San Francisco 49ers pro football club were brok en off Monday by Anthony J. Mo- rabito, co-owner of the National League club. He wired toe Cleveland group that "the 49ers are no longer in terested in continuing negotiations under any circumstances." His telegram was addressed to Nate Dolin, vice president of the Cleveland Indians Baseball team, and one of the three agents who came to San Francisco last week as potential buyers. The other two were Abe Saper stein, owner of the Harlem Globe Trotters and Fraklin Lewis, Cleve land sports editor. The three said they -spoke for an unidentified group of prospective buyers. Morabito gave no hint of a rea son for breaking off relations which he said had been "one of the most attractive offers the 49ers had received since the franchise was put up for sale In mid-December." Man ager Leo Durocher said Monday. "Willlie is the key to our pen nant chances," Durocher told re porters as he relaxed in the Gi ants' offices. "So much depends upon him. For instance, with Willie back. I could send Bobby Thomson to third, switch Alvin Dark to second and give this kid. Daryl Spencer a shot at short stop." Durocher said he was greatly impressed by Spencer's play in his brief trial with the Giants last September. Spencer, a 23-year-old. powerfully bunt six-footer, batted .294 in his one-week tenure at the Polo Grounds, the same batting average he built up at Minneapo lis. Spencer impressed with his 27 home runs, his finesse in the field and also showed a powerful arm that Durocher said reminded him of Glenn Wright. In Birmingham, Ala., where Mays is on a furlough, the Negro star said he had not received any answer regarding his request for discharge because of hardship. Mays claims to be the sole sup port of 12 dependents. "They didn't tell me how long it would take before something is done on my request." he said. "I have no idea whether they will let me out."
