An angel cake that has a different flavor, is this one that's a combination of chocolate -and lemon. It originally came from a Mrs. F. E. Beck, Raymond, Wasiu, and we've had it in the files a good 20 years. - CHOCOLATE LEMON ANGEL FOOD 1H cups egg whites - teaspoon salt 3 cup cocoa 2 tablespoons cold water ; 1H cups sugar 1 tablespoon lemon, Juice . 1 cup sifted flour 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon cream of tartar ? Sift flour, sugar and cocoa together 5 times. Beat whites, wa ter, lemon juice and salt until foamy, add cream of tartar, beat until stiff, but not dry. Fold in dry ingredients and vanilla. Pour into large dripping pan lined with paper. Put in a 300 degree oven raising to 350, bake 1 hour. Turn out and when cold split and fill with sweetened flavored whipped cream. Frost with un. cooked fudge icing. 'i ! : : Another old-timer is this one for a sponge cake that win use up the eggs from the angel cake. This is good when baked in a sheet pan and cut up to make small cakes. Has a Lady Finger consistency and flavor. . - S EGG SPONGE CAKE -S egg yolks - X teaspoon vanilla cup cold water 1H cups flour 1 cup sugar teaspoon salt i Beat yolks with cold water, using rotary beater, add sugar gradually and beat until sugar is dissolved; Change to flat beater and add flavoring and flour gradually, beating over and over in ' the same direction until batter IS smooth. Pour in sheet pan with greased paper on bottom, but with no grease on sides. Bake 1 hour at 300. Cut from aides of pan, invert on board and tear off . paper at once. Cut into fancy shape, si v - i V Lightening tea cake came front a Fruit and Flower Cook book, published years and years ago. It's an easy and practical recipe. .. , ' -, --w- , UGnTNINO TEA CAXE3 , . -1 Place flour sifter in a mixing.bowl and put in 1 cups flour. & cup sugar, 3 teaspoons baking powder and a pinch of salt. Sift : into a bowl. Put Y cup melted fat in a measuring cup, add 2 eggs -- and fill up with mCk. Combine and beat thoroughly and add 1 teaspoon lemon extract. Miss Dryscfale Is Winner Winning top place in both a sen ior and junior tournament. Miss Marguerite Dry sdala started off in the lead of a seven-week series at the Salem Elks Duplicate Bridge Club. Last week Miss Drysdale played with Sidney Schechtman to finish high in a 12-table senior movement, while this week she teamed with Don Huff to come in first among the juniors. Arthur L. Lewis and Gilbert Groff had high score in a senior 13-table tournament this week to lead the older players, while Wil liam F. Leary, Mrs. Lewis and El mer O. Berg were not far behind. O'' er juniors with high scores this week included Mrs. Sam Ramp and Mrs. Weslie Ritchie, Mrs. Har old Muhs'and Mrs. Mona Yoder, Mrs. Richard Hayward and Jim Webb. Mrs. L. P. President Names New Committees A house furnishings committee for the new YWCA building was appointed at the board meeting Tuesday morning by Mrs. Harold O. Schneider, president. Mrs. H. G. Maison and Mrs. Karl Becke will serve as co-chairmen of the committee, assisted by Mrs. G. F. Chambers, Mrs. Robert W. Gorm sen and Mrs. Charles D. Wood: New YWCA representatives on the USO committee are Mrs. Wil liam Van Meter and Mrs. A. E. Ullman. After the meeting the board members viewed the new budget shop to be sponsored by the YW CA at 162 S. For a number of years the club has sponsored a March of Dimes drive- for tha Infantile Paralysis iiind. Mrs. Dolph Heater will head the drive in this community again this i year.
