Plans were made when the "group met during the week with Mrs. Ivan Smith at Mehama. Funeral services for George Rogers, father of Mrs. Gladys Stiffler, were held Saturday at Scio. Officers of Faith Rebekah Lodge wiU be installed Wednesday. Jean Roberts, noble grand-elect, enter tained officers at a luncheon at her home. Mrs. Bert Lyons, Mrs. Pat Lyons and Mrs. John Kunkle won prizes at the Afternoon Card Club meet ing this week. Mr. and Mrs . Special Music On Jefferson Church Slate Statesman News Service JEFFERSON Sunday was Cas cade College day at the Evangeli cal United Brethren Church. The Rev. Mark Lloyd, professor of speech at the Portland college, gave the spoken message, assisted by the King's Heralds trumpet trio, and Miss Shirley Speece, con tralto soloist. Rev. Lloyd spoke at the morning service, the trumpet trio played two numbers and Miss Speece sang. - The evening service was given over entirely to the Cascade Col lege gospel team. This team is In terdenominational. The total stamp sales for 1952 amount ed to $8,425.97 or $220.05 more than the total of $6062 in 1951. The money! order department also, showed a boost in business with. 3,664 money orders for J$63, 329.87, as compared with 3,558 issued In 1951 for $58,523.03. The Christmas card mailing was heavy this year, and has been in creasing in volume the past sev eral years. No increase in parcel post was noted. Since the in crease in parcel post rates, pa trons have mailed less packages than in years heretofore. The Jefferson postof flee serves 2,500 patrons, with 176 boxhold ers within the city and 342 on the rural route served by Jeffer son delivery. Forty-two new post office lock boxes were installed during the year to accommodate the increased patronage. Mrs. Miller assists her husband as assistant postmaster. Ernest Powel has carried the mail out of this office for almost 40 years. During rush times, or when the Millers have time off, Mrs. Henry Thiessen assists at the window, and Ford Forster also acts - as substitute clerk. Making cinnamon toast was dem onstrated by John Anglin and Tom Latham at a recent meeting. For the Jan. 19 meeting, members will bake custard at home which will be judged at the home of their leader, Mrs. John Cage. Harry Lee Scharf is club president.
