EXCITING NIGHT ... for the Waters twins, Claudia and Clarice, a week ago when they were chos en queens of the Salem High School Inter-Club Carnival . . . the selection of the queen is kept a secret until the announcement is made on the stage . . . even their parents, Dr. and Mrs. Keni neth Waters, had no idea their at tractive blonde twins, were to be queens ... So clever the way Pa tricia Deeney, chairman of the carnival, made the announcement . . . after telling who were the crown princesses she walked around the stage with a large bouquet of flowers for the queen . . . and just as she walked in front of the twins she divided the bouquet and gave them each one . . . For the occasion the girls wore pretty white net frocks with stoles . . . Engagement Revealed Mr. and Mrs. Arthur C. Whit of Jefferson are announcing the en gagement of their daughter. Mrs. Mary Ellen Shepherd will entertain members of her bridge club at a Christmas dinner Mon day night at her home. Mrs. John Horton, who is here visiting from Baker, will be a guest. Mrs. Lester L Pearmlne Jr. was hostess for a dessert bridge and Christmas party .Tuesday after noon at her country home for members of her club. Their name is Christ mas. "It isn't as bad as you might expect," says Dale Christmas. He and his brother Glenn can just about predict what will happen. The phone will ring. They will bo here a week. mm m miiP mum Here Are Some Hints for Last Minute Christmas Shoppers, Varied Gifts DECORATE WITH CARDS Christmas cards are much too handsome to be stacked on the table, and there won't be time to enjoy them unless they're set out to be seen. Plan now how to use them for room decoration, here is an idea1 for a big brightener for wall. Buy a long sheet of me tallic paper next trip down town, gold, silver, red, green, blue, Decide which color according to the color scheme of the room. Un roll the paper at home, but don't flatten it. Each end will curl na turally to make a scroll. - The wrong side of the paper which the scroll ends show can be faced with the same paper or a con trasting shade. Use strong stick- on tape to attach the scroll to a painted walL Cut a strip much longer than the width of the pa per, attach each strip to the back of the scroll end and fold the ends of the tape back to stick to the wall. Sunday, December 21. 19527 New Iran Oil Proposals to Show Changes LONDON IE British officials said Friday that Loy Henderson, United States ambassador in Teh ran, will present Iranian Premier Mohammed Mossadegh new joint proposals for settling the Anglo- Iranian ou question. According to one official source. the proposals depart "to some de gree from the plan submitted by President Truman ami Prime Mini ster Winston Churchill to Mossa degh on August 30. The proposals include a "face saver" for the Iranian premier. However, it is stressed, both Bri tain and the United States have agreed to stand pat on that part of the Truman - Churchill proposals which insists that question of com pensation for the nationalization of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company's interests in Iran should be sub mitted to international arbitration, preferably by the International Court of Justice t the Hague. It was not disclosed when Hender son will present the new proposals to Mossadegh. The American diplomat-has been in Washington for conferences.
