Sunday Pocswnber 21, 1352 Holidays Marked With Many Parties, Visitors to Be Feted The holiday week win be filled with numerous parties, at homes, teas and showers for brides-elect. Mrs. Arthur Atherton will be a coffee hostess Monday morning at her East Browning Avenue residence for a group of her friends be tween 10 and 12 o'clock. Mrs. Arthur Bates will greet guests at the door. Presiding at the Annual Holiday Party Held Thursday The Insurance Women's Associa tion of Salem held their annual Christmas party in the Marine Room of the Marion Hotel on Thursday. Mrs. John L. Hoffman played Christmas piano selections while refreshments were servea during the reception hour which preceded dinner. The reception room and dinner tables were dec orated with Santa Claus sleighs and reindeer and Christmas green ery. Mrs. Frances Freedenburg, pres ident of the Eugene Insurance Women's Association, assisted by Miss Nila Cluett, president of the Salem club, presented a Braille writer, purchased jointly by the two clubs, to Miss Iva M. Speed, a blind student at Oregon College of Education at Monmouth. Several members volunteered their services for Saturday after noon in mailing of March of Dimes literature. Welfare project funds and gifts for the Christmas basket for a needy family were received. Santa Claus then distributed the exchange gifts brought by the members. - Guests from Eugene were Mrs. Francese Freedenburg, Mrs. Bea Boss, Mrs. Evelyn Hilen Mrs. Ra mona Zeigler, and Brs. Bernice Taylor; from Albany, Mrs. Kath ryn McHugh; and from Salem: Miss Bernice Ruettgers, Mis Shir ley Jones, and Mrs. J. A. Kinzer. Engagement of Phylli is Scott Mr. and Mrs. Don X. Firth are announcing the engagement of their daughter, Miss Phyllis Jean Sc-rtt, to Charles Stayton Staab, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Staab. No date has been set for the wed ding. The bride-elect is a graduate of Salem High School and attended Oregon State College. Mr. Staab is also a Salem High School graduate, and attended Oregon State Col lege. He is now an electronic tech nician third class with the United States navy. He is now at home for the holidays. Y-Wlves Honored At Holiday Party The Y- Wives of the YWCA -were entertained at a Christmas party Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. Wolf D. von Otter atedt on Chemeketa Street. A des sert supper was served followed by a gift exchange. F'er the program Sue Spring, a member of the Salem High School debate team, gave a group of read ings, several of which she had given at the Pacific University speech tournament. The Jan. 15 meeting will be keld at the YWCA. Several new members were welcomed by the group and anyone interested in becoming a member is asked to call Mrs. von Otterstedt or attend the next meeting. Dr. and Mrs. 8. D. Wiles and children, Nancy, Steele and Mark, are leaving Monday for Seattle to spend Christmas at the home of Mrs. Wiles' parents, Mr. ,and Mr. R. R. Wilcken. They will return the end of the week. This is an annual custom of the hosts and assisting will be their son, Tom Brand, who is home from his stu dies at the University of .Oregon Law School for the holidays. The affair will compliment their holiday guests, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Thompson of New Bruns wick, New Jersey, parents of Mrs. Huggins, and Mr. and Mrs. William Hoagland of Palo Alto, Calif., brother-in-law and sister of Mrs. Huggins. Junior CDA Formal on Dec. 29 Outstanding event of the year for the Junior Catholic Daughters of America will be their winter formal on Monday night, Dec. 29 at the Catholic Center. Skaters holiday is the theme for the decor and the dance floor will be decorated to resemble an ice pond encircled with snow laden trees. Each tree was placed in a bright can and the trees all dif ferently decorated with two wom en working on each tree. The ma tron of the home will change the trees so each patient will sec all trees. Favors of cookies tied in bright red paper were made for serving trays. For the short business meet ing conducted by the president, Mrs. Milton Blackman, members answered roll call with their fav orite annuals. Following the meet-i ing several attended the Salem Garden club greens show, the club had helped with the decorating. Miss Margaret Scandling, who arrived from San Francisco on Saturday for her brother's wedding and to be" one of the bridesmaids, will assist her parents. Camp Fire Giris Are Entertained SALEM HEIGHTS Mrs. Floyd McClellan entertained the Ote kaye" Camp Fire - group of the sixth grade of the Salem Heights School on Thursday evening at her home on Ratcliff Drive at a chili dinner. The group honored their leader, Mrs. Kenneth Zwicker, on her birthday as well as the group's annual Christmas party. They played games and sang songs, and had an exchange of gifts. Navy Ensign to Arrive Ensign Wilfred Loggan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Loggan, is expected to arrive in the capital on Wednesday from San Francisco. He recently arrived in the bay city aboard his navy transport. The navy officer, who is known to his friends as Tink, will be here a week before reporting back to his ship. He entered the service last spring following his graduation from Oregon State College.
