Sheet Brings Aid to Invalid DOYLESTOWN, Pa, UP) A sheet waving from a broomstick thrust through a second - story window attracted neighbors Thurs day to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Gretzan. Inside they found Mrs. Gretzan, an 87 - year - old invalid, sobbing. She told them she had not eaten since Sunday when her husband Frederick, 91, went downstairs She had managed Wednesday night to crawl to the window and hang out the sheet as a distress signal. Gretzan lay dead on the cellar floor. Dr. Roy Thomas said death apparently was due to a heart attack. Rail Strength Boosts Stocks NEW YORK (py-Un usual strength in railroad and a few oth er issues put the stock market slightly ahead Thursday. Overall it was a thin margin of gain induced almost entirely by the concentration of strength. Favorite issues went up about three points at the best but the great majority of stocks on the upsido held their gain below a point. This Is the third day that the market has gone through a cau tious consolidation with a high degree of selective buying and selling since it reached a 1952 high last Monday. Volume amounted to 1,860,000 shares as compared with 1,700,000 shares traded Wednesday, both bel low recent daily averages.
