County Civil Dei erne Reforms As Result of Summer Exercise ' Revamping of the Marion County Civil Defense, to promote in creased effectiveness in emergency relief, was announced Thursday by Wallace S. Wharton, director. Wharton said the reorganization is the result of an exercise in FTOcedure for CD organizations last August. At Portland grade A large eggs dropped two to three cents a dozen while Seattle quotations at the jobbing i levels dropped from I to 5 cents a dozen early in the week. The adjustment also in volved increases of 1 to 2 cents i on medium sizes. The new facilities protection sub division, under direction of Carl W. Chambers, takes over the function formerly In the industrial plant protection and the public facilities protection subdivisions. - Sections of the new subdivision are indus trial, commercial, public and utili ties. AQ ' civil defense transportation functions are centralized in the new ; transportation : subdivision. with Russell Pratt assistant deputy in charge. Section are dispatcher. vehicle pool, land transport, water transport and air transport. The most extensive reorganiza tion was in the operations division, I under Deputy Paul i M. GemmelL. The only, unchanged subdivision health, headed by Dr. W. J. 1 Stone. . t Two new sub-divisions were cre ated, - rescue under G. W. Boat- wnght and evacuation under E. F. I Ross. The sections in the rescue unit are light rescue, heavy rescue. water rescue and heavy machinery rescue. Those in the evacuation unit are collection, assembly and routing. An aid and welfare subdivision has been created for coordination and integration of; activities re sponsible for non-medical care ox disaster victims. Leo N. Quids is assistant deputy in charge. Through agreement with Marion County Chapter of Red Cross, the normal disaster functions oL the Red Cross have been made avail able through the mass care group, headed by Frank M. Doolittle. The welfare group is headed by Miss Marion i Bowen. Sections under Doolittle are shelter centers. John Lamb; clothing. Loyal Warner; food, J. B. Crary, with C. J. Nel son In charge of mobile kitchens; .
