Irisli Priest Finds Salem To His Liking Although he's brand new to Sa lem, the Rev. James B. Fleming of St Joseph's Catholic Church says he likes the town and would be "perfectly; glad" to stay here tbe rest of his life. Recently arrived from Maghera- felt. County Derry, Ireland, Father Fleming has ! remarked that his first impression of Oregon is that it is rather brown and warm. In Ireland, he says, it rains a lot, in fact "too much." Oldtimers in Ore gon have assured the Father that he will soon feel "at home" here. Father Fleming took his training at Derry City College and at All Hallows Seminary in Dublin. He says that a college In Ireland is the equivalent of high school in the United States.- The seminary, ne says, is for foreign missionaries. When a priest from Astoria, Ore., came to Ireland on vacation, he ap peared at the Dublin school and asked for three men to return to Oregon with him. Father Fleming drew Salem and Is glad that he did. "This is a city to me," he says. He. likes the peo ple, : calls them "friendly," and says he thinks Salem is pretty and "homely looking."
