SILVERTON First Baptist
Church is planning a full schedule
for its first anniversary observ
ance Sunday. '
. The church was organized in the
present parsonage at 713 N. 2nd
St. with IS charter members on
Oct. 11, 1951, with the Rev. George
Horton as founding pastor. Horton
left ' because- of illness in January
of this year. In May. the Rev. E.
H. Duerksen was called. Since then
U22 new members have been added.
The Rev. Charles Losie, state
Christian education director for
the , Conservative Baptist Associa
tion; will speak at .the morning
service, and Drl and Mrs. Gordon
C. McNeilly will sing. A special
offering will be applied to the
building fund. j i
Horton will ! show films during
the evening service, followed by a
birthday cake in. the parsonage.
The Rev. O. E. Stavaas, returned
missionary lo; ! Madagascar, will
speak at Trinity Lutheran Church
Sunday at 11 a. m. He will report
on missionary (work in the Mada
gascar area which is supported by
Evangelical Lutheran congrega
tions. While in this area, Mr. and
Mrs.1 Stavaas will visit relatives at

The Ninety and Nine Men's
Brotherhood, laymen's organiza
tion of the Christian Churches in
Oregon, opened its state conven
tion at Salem First Christian
Church on Friday evening, with
over 700! attending. The Hev. Wil
liam Baird, of Modesto, California,
is the guest speaker, and Ezra
Blehm, Harrisburg, the state pre
sident. .
Session began with a dinner and
a general session with the Rev.
Bayne Driskill, of Fort Worth,
Tex. as guest speaker.
Today's sessions will ' include
classes both morning and evening,
directed by pastors and la? lead
ers from over the state; a report
from the president of the World
Convention of Disciples of Christ,
held in Melbourne, Australia last
August, and a banquet at 5:30 pjn.
A men's Bible class, taught by
the Rev. Alger Fitch of Milwaukie,
will precede the Sunday morning
