Harry ' Cain had disclosed -he supple roents his official income by ac cepting fees, totaling about 15,000 year, for speaking engagements. ' Unless he did so, the Times quot ed the Republican Senator as say teg, he would sot be able to carry on the minimum obligations of a Senator. ' -- The Times laid it had questioned Cther members of the Washington Congressional delegation about Sen. Warren G. Magnuson assert ed he had no special account to draw on. Magnuson. in a Los An geles speech Friday, joined the at tack on Republican vice presiden tial nominee Richard Nixon for his use of an $18,235 expense fund ; contributed by wealthy constitu ents, saying it was "not right" The Times said Reps. Hugh B Mitchell. Henry M. Jackson and Hal Holmes had reported they had no ' sources of income . politically except their official salaries. Reps. Tollefson, Mack and Horan were traveling and were not interview ed, the newspaper said. L The newspaper said Cain com mented on Magnuson's statement as follows: i "Mr. Magnuson's statement will .be enjoyed thoroughly by many others as it is by me," he said. "Mr. Magnuson has given mt rea son to chuckle and remain amus ed for a long time to come." Cain also defended Nixon's use of the controversial expense fund. the Times said. "Because I know how honest Dick Nixon is, I believe anyone who criticizes him simply doesn't understand the realities of life. the Senator quoted. : He continued: - i I . nave never asked for, nor been given any additional money or expense account-by any of my constituents. CHICAGO (yPV-Tradin2 In trains this week was featured by closing out of September contracts and persistent easiness in corn. The September contracts wound up on a rather sour note. Com pared with a week ago, all of them -were down and corn was down the most. September corn sank to new seasonal lows practically every day as the country shipped in the yel low grain in substantial quantities. For the week wheat ended 1 lower to higher, corn 2-6 lower, oats lower, rye IVa to S cents lower, soybeans 1 cent lower to 1V higher and lard 15 to 40 cents a hundred pounds Higher.
