Mrs. Stephen Sherman is president of the group this year. : 4 Miss Martha : Steusloffls Engaged Taking the romantic spotlight today is Miss Martha Steusloff of San Francisco, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Steusloff, whose engagement to Carlyle Thorup. son of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. McVicar of Haywood. Calif-, Is being announced by the bride elect's parents. The wedding is planned for next spring. f Miss Steusloff and her fiance ar rived in the capital this weekend to spend the ensuing ten days at the Steusloff home. -, The bride-elect and her fiance are graduates of the University of California at Berkeley. Miss Steusloff is now a junior account ant with Lester Herritk and Her- rick in the bay city. ' Mr. Thorup recently returned from a tour of navy duty lor Ja pan as an ensign in the supply corps. He has been released from active duty after two years of service. He will enter business in the bay area, where the couple will reside after their marriage. The Practical Nurses Associa tion of the Salem area will meet Thursday night at 8 pjn. at the Salem Woman's Club basement room. Fourth Vockly Bridgo Tournoy A fourth weekly tournament will be available starting Wednesday afternoon for Salem's duplicate bridge players, it has been an nounced by Walter M. Cline and Jack Neflsen, chairman of the lo cal ACBL committee, and a sec ond monthly master point game wiU.be started in October. With membership nearing 140, the Sa lem Elks Club group may have even a third master point soon under the new policy of the bridge league s western division. The new weekly-play will be held at the Woman's club at I pan. Wednesdays with Mrs. Ellis H. Jones as director. Senior rating points will be: awarded winners. High scores in the September master point play went to Mrs. Harry Wiedmer and Mrs. C. B Bentson, and Ray Ward and Oli ver-Huston, while others among the top teams were Walter. M. Cline and L. W. Frasier of Albany, Mrs. Charles Newsom and Mrs. Leona Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Pinkerton of Gladstone, and Mr. and Mrs. John Pugh of Shedd. In the junior playoff, both Don ald Duncan and Mrs. Duncan were winners but on opposite sides of the boards. Their partners were Mrs. Mona Toder and Mrs. Robert Burns. Others winning points were Ray Kemp and Sam Ramp, Lin Miles and Herbert Reddick, Mrs. Lloyd Jones and Mrs. "W. F. Lie- ske, and Mrs. F. C. Lutz and Mrs. W. R. Newmyer. Although half a dozen teams came from Portland and several from other cities for the master point, none was able to finish high er than third place.
