E In i - - - - t - Tcen-Ago Girls Can Learn to Sow On School Clothes, Take Courses BySUEGARDVEK Those last few weeks' before school opens usually mean shop ping trips for mothers with school- age children, a Is a rare teen age r. indeed, who can make her whole school wardrobe, but most can make -at least one cos tume and some accessories for. school. At local sewing centers, dim ' MmM 'for teenagers are featured, beginners can. learn to cut. adjust patterns, fit, and use attachments on their macb- lnes. , There are a number of new fabrics, on the market this year that win provide excellent ma terials for school wardrobes. The cottons with a tween look or with thin stripes can be made into salts that will be popular with ' 7-: ' r;v-.t: girls and with mothers' who want to keep cleaning bills down.' Man-made fabrics mat are quick drying and Just about every-thing-resistant are also excellent for school costumes. Many of these are now on piece goods counters and wQl come in more attractive, colors ; and weaves than did earlier, materials. It is a good idea to let a girl chose her own materials and net own style, provided she does not try one too different for her first sewing venture. She can learn a great deal by selecting the ac cessories to go with that first dress. These should be items that harmonize with the other cos tumes she has for her fall ward robe. ' By the time a girl has made one dress for herself she knows how to use a sewing machine, turn up a hem, and do minor al terations on ready-made gar-. : ments skills which wfil be use ful for many years to come.
