Beavers kept alive their hopes for
place in the first division by
weeping a Pacific Coast League
doubleheader from Sacramento,
taking both fames by 2-1 scores,
here Sunday. Red Adams hurled
the first game win for Portland,
hading the Sacs' Glen Elliott.
Lyman Linde" was the winner in
the nightcap, though giving! way
to Roy Welmaker in the eighth.
Seattle's Rainiers swept ' into
third place in the standings, dis
placing the San Diego. Padres who
they whirmed in both ends of a
twinbOV 15-3 and 6-4- The hot
Rainiers won the series 7-2. Los
Angeles and Hollywood split a
pair, the Angels taking the open
er 6-5 and the Stars the nightcap
8-3. The split cut Hollywood's

ARGENTINE STAR DIES
BUENOS AIRES Argentine
tennis star Heraldo W. Weiss, 35,
died early Sunday and was buried
in the afternoon. Weiss had been
ill since his return two weeks ago
from a tennis tour of Europe. He
has been a member of Argentine's
Davis Cup team several times and
coached the squad last year.

Ogdahl. taking the place of the
resigned Chester Stackhouse, will
have the initial Job of acquaint
ins himself with the returning
men as well as freshmen new
comers. The former Jefferson of
Portland coach utilizes the "T"
and variations, as did Stackhouse.
Of the opening turnout, approx
imately 22 will be returning mon
ogramers from the 1931 squad.
Some promising men are due up
from last season's Jayvee crew
and there are Indications that the
club may . get considerable help
from the freshmen ranks.

game. The three-and-a-half hour

An announcer explained the
game to more than 15,000 fans in
the national stadium here, home
grounds of the Torino soccer
squad.
Many of the fans, whose favor
