C. iu. i . nunanaug Of Salem Dies AtPrineville Magnus T. Rundhaug. 59, late resident of 395 S. 18th St. died of a heart attack Monday in Prine ville. He had been a resident of Salem 10 years. Born in Erskine, Minn., Rund haug came with his family to Sa lem in 1942 and lived with a bro ther, CarL For the last five years he had worked with construction crews in Salem and surrounding territory. Rundhaug had been ailing for some time. He died while driving to a store on Monday afternoon. Survivors include sons, Reuben, Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Le Roy of Portland; daughter Doris; brothers, Ole of Spokane, 'Melvin of Portland, Carl and Arthur of Salem; sisters, Mrs. Clara Knight of St Paul, Minn, Mrs. Olga Iver son of Salem. The young sters will work with 30 teachers and sponsors who will attend an adult workshop in Red Cross work. Delegates to this camp have been selected to attend the camp for their qualities of leadership. They will attend discussion classes and hear speakers on phases of the pro gram both in and out of the schools what It is and how it can be helped They will be expected to carry their lessons back to their groups. As there are no active Red Cross units in its high schools, Marion County will have no rep resentatives at the session. As a result he and his wife, Ethyl G. Wilkenson, were pre sented with a week's expense paid vacation to Detroit They leave Friday, August 15 from Portland on the streamliner "City of Portland." Presentation was made by James C Randall, Dodge district manager. Wilkenson, along with two fel low Baker Motors' salesman, Don Blaisdell and Homer Stiffler, also received a charter membership in the select Dodge "400" Club, and was presented with a special pin and membership certificate. Among: items included in the manual are care and handling of firearms, laws of arrest, what con stitutes crime, apprehension of criminals, searches and seizures, and laws of evidence, j The books is modeled to a great extent on a manual presently in use by the Eugene Police Departs ment, which Is also a compilation of several other manuals. All sections dealing with law were written in conjunction with the Salem city attorney's office. Warren said, with explanatory in formation added by that depart ment and the police department. Warren said the manual will be used In all police training classes and will also be issued to members of the Salem police reserves. Rev.F.F.Otts, Retired Salem Pastor, Dies The Rev. Fred Ferdinand Ott, former pastor of the Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Salem died Tuesday in a local hospital after an illness of several years. He was 63. i ' He had been in the hospital since February and had resigned his pulpit in 1947 because of ill ness. He had served in the Salem church since 1945. M Born in Basel, Switzerland Jan. 19, 1889, Reverend ? Ott spent most of his early life in various church activities in Europe. He went to school in Beuggeiy Ger many, and served an apprentice ship at a Basel mission book firm: Later he went to Paris to learn the French language and then re turned to live several years in Berlin and Munich, Germany. In 1913 he was married to Mar guerite Meyer in a seminary in which he attended school in Basel Their.only child, Fred Carl, was born the following year. Both he and his mother survive. In 1915, Ott was assigned to a book depot in Accra, Gold Coast, Africa. After serving there three years during the first world war, he returned to Switzerland, where he became prominent in YMCA activities. ! ' ! With his family, he came to New York in 1925 and in 1928 attended a seminary in Bloomfield, N. J. to train for the ministry; He was or dained In 1930 and assigned a church in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, Canada, where he served several years. Following that he was min ister at a church in Upham, N. D Forced by ill health to come west he preached in churches in Hills boro and Walla Walla, Wash. before coming to Salem in 1945. Besides his widow and son, he is survived by a daughter-in-law, two grandchildren, two brothers and a sister all in Switzerland, and another sister in New York. Funeral services will be an nounced later by the Howell Edwards Co.
