Milk Rise Forecast WASHINGTON (JFf- The fam ily milk bill will go higher in the month ahead, the Agriculture De partment predicted Tuesday. In a report on the dairy situa tion, the department said a late summer and fall decline in milk production coupled with strong consumer demands for dairy pro ducts is expected to push prices higher. ' Milk output normally drops off at this time of year, reflecting the effect of hot weather on pas tures. The severe drought in the South and Northeast already has cut production considerably below n-mal. The department made ; no' f ore c? t on how much prices of fluid milk., butter, cheese and i other dairy products will rise. j NEW HARDBOARD PANEL FOREST GROVE (JP) A new tongue and groove hardboard pan el, made of light natural wood, was announced Tuesday by the Fores, Fiber Products Co, of For est Grove. The panels, 16 inches wide by 8 feet long, is designed for wall paneling over studs, fur ring strips or old plaster walls. (AP Wlrephoto to The Statesman.) 7 Destroye Gets Full Blame for Carrier Crash WASHINGTON (JP) A Naval court of inquiry announced Tues day that the "sole cause" of the disastrous mid-Atlantic collision between the carrier; Wasp and the destroyer-minesweeper Hobson on April 26 was an "unexplained left turn" made by the destroyer. A total of 176 crewman died in the sinking of the Hobson. The court said Lt. Cmdr. W... J. Tierney, ! skipper of the Hobson, "committed a grave error in judg ment" in making the turn. The Hobson was run down by the 32,000-ton carrier, Tierney died in the collision. 5 The court, which began its hear ings immediately after the badly damaged Wasp reached New York last May, absolved all other offi cers on both ships of any respon sibility for the accident one of the worst peacetime disasters in U. S. Naval history.! The three-admiral court said both vessels were in good condi tion and thaat no material, me chanical or electronic failures in either ship contributed to 1 caused the collision.! or r ' 4 Court Closes! Yoder Estate A Marion County probate court order Tuesday closed the estate of Levi Lawrence Yoder, 70, killed when struck by a trucks July 21 near Hubbard. j f A payment of $856 by West Coast Freight Inc., owner of the truck, to the surviving widow and children as settlement of a liability claim was authorized by the court order. j j Yoder met death while walking along-the j Pacific Highway, about one mile south of Hubbard.' Russia Asked to Join Austria Pact 'i : ' - M ' WASHINGTON (JP)- The United States Britain and France have prodded Russia again to join in providing f'an immediate and just" treaty establishing Austria's inde pendence and freedom from mili tary occupation. j .Western' capitals released the text of a i brief note to Moscow Tuesday night. It had been deliv ered to the Kremlin Monday. Mishaps Involving Minors Increase i '' Since school let out there has been an increase in industrial ac cidents to boys and girls! because minors are filling up summer jobs, according to a report made by State . Labor Commissioner W. E. Kimsey. : ; ! Some 6,00 permits for employ ment of minors under 18 have been issued to employers each summer. During the first week of August, 37 minors were 'injured on the job compared to 47 injured for the entire month of July and 28 in June. Approximately 132 industrial accidents to minors have been re ported in the last four months. Margaret Leaves For Denmark Tour BERLIN (JP)- Margaret Truman left Berlin by special train Tues day night for Denmark on the last leg of her European tour. The President's daughter met several hundred American, Brit ish, French and German officials at a reception given by Cecil Ly on, chief of the State Department's Berlin office. August 13. 1952- Kiwanians to Picnic Tonight j Kiwanians in 14 clubs from Can by to the coast, including Salem, will meet at 6:30 pm. today for a barbecue at Champoeg State Park. ! This is the third year the group has met. It started when the New berg club sent a crate of baby chickens to the Salem group. They were to feed the birds for a week and then pass them on to another club. . j When the chicks have gone through seven clubs they were at the frying stage. So the Kiwanians had a fried chicken party. Though the chicken idea has not persisted, the party has. officials said. The paving project involves about three blocks. . ' ; TUNE IN!
