Bonus Amounts
Still Puzzle
Few Veterans
A total of 59,645 World War II
veterants bonus checks had been
placed in the mails by this week,
State Veterans Department offi
cials said.
Carl Cover, chief of claims for
the bonus division, said many bon
us recipients appear puzzled about
the method used in computing
payments. A substantial number
of veterans have written the de
partment that their checks do not
cover their actual service.
A conscientious ex-WAVE wrote
that she apparently had been over
paid $10.
The bonus act says payment
shall be made on the basis of $10
for each full month of stateside
duty and $15 for each month of
foreign or sea duty. Fractions of
months don't count, except as they
may be added together to total one
full month.
Checks are being issued at the
rate of approximately 700 a day.
Officials estimated that applica
tions would total 135,000. Bonds
aggregating $46,000,000 already
have been issued and sold. Offi
cials said a second bond sale prob
ably would be held next year.

ness and determination in players
that businessmen looked for in
employes.
He drew laughs for reciting
"Casey at the Bat" and several
jokes. Ogdahl, a former Willam
ette gridder, comes here from
Portland where he coached Grant
High School four years.
Milan Boniface was appointed
