He received 53 votes, Clyde Lam bert of Whiteson 10. Marvel Smith, Glen Stevens and Don Full one oach. The vote on the tax over 6 per ceat limitation was 40 in favor and 26 againt. Out-of-state visitors in Amity re Miss Mildred Davis and Mrs. C. G. Blair of Cabool, Mo., who are guests of their sister, Mrs. P. Jr. Meeker. They came west to Se attle with their brother and slster-ln-lawj Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Davis of Springfield, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. George Bridgman Ot Anaheim, Calif., were recent guests at the Ivan Crawley home west of Amity. They were neigh bors 30 years ago in Nebraska. Clayton Crawley of Arnold, Neb. arrived at the home of his parents, Jtfr. and Mrs. Ivan Crawley, for an indefinite stay. Mr. and Mrs. Bud linn and Mrs. Sula Linn motored to Mis souri on a business and pleasure trip. Mr. and Mrs. John Kabatoff and family, who have lived here for several years, are moving to their new home north of Salem. Mrs. C. F. Wells left Saturday for Palo Alto, Calif., where she J rill visi her son-in-law and a lighter, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Gunn and son, Bren. Guests recently at the J. W. Graber home were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Harris of Grand Coulee, Wash. Sgt. Ramon Pruiett, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Pruiett, who has pent 10 months in Korea, is now Stationed at Fort Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Gray are entertaining this week Mrs. Gray's uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Cort Martz of Redwood City, Calif. Californians Visit At Home in Lyons LYONS Saturday evening din ner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Duggan and daughters were Duggan's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Duggan and daughter, Ruth, of Willamina. and bis cousin and wife, Mr. and Mrs. O a c a r Mehl, Los Angeles. Sunday the group visited in Willamina. Stateaman Ni Service Charles W. Ryder ALBANY Funeral services for Charles W. Ryder, 79, who died in a local hospital Tuesday, will be held from the Fisher Funeral Home at 11 o'clock (DST) Friday. The Rev. Lester Jones will offi ciate. Burial will be in Willamette Memorial Park. Barn in Summerville, Mass., on Oct 19. 1872, Ryder had also lived in California previous to coming to Albany in 1927. He was a re tired piano tuner. Survivors include the widow; t.vo sons, Franklin Ryder of Al bany and Charles W. Ryder of Santa Monica, Calif., and two two grandchildren. Lee Marfan ALBANY Lee (Spud) Morgan, 79, died In a local nursing home Tuesday. Services will be held from the Fortmlller-Fredericksen Chapel at 2 o'clock (DST) Thurs day. Officers of the BPOE Lodge will hold ritualistic services. The Pev. Morton Booth will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside. A life-long resident of Albany. Morgan was born here Oct. 22, 1872, a son of William C. and Pies SB Jane Dunn Morgan, who cross ed the plains by ox team in 1852. In Albany in 1903, Morgan was n . a t ried to Ora Lung. She died In 1948. Surviving are four children. Mrs. Barbara Musgrave of Sweet Home, Mrs. Ruella Heyman of Al bany, Richard R. Morgan of Chi cago, 111., and William D. Morgan ot Portland, and seven grandchil dren. Robert O. Brown SWEET HOME Funeral serv ices were held at the Huston Fun eral Home in Lebanon Tuesday for Robert G. Brown, 84, who died lu the Mary Ellen Nursing Home at Lebanon Saturday. Born May 20, 1868, in Nebraska, Brawn had lived in Portland for 49 years before coming to Sweet Home two years ago. His wife died In November, 1950. Their only son, VTiHiam F. Brown, died March i, 1951. Surviving are his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mildred Brown, and five mece. Mrs. Egan, prominent in local fraternal cir cles, has spent almost her entire life in Marion County. Her daugh ter, Mrs. Mary Kleeman, is assist ing in her care. Sweet Home School Levy Passes 85-21 SWEET HOME School voters approved the proposed tax levy of $121,927.05 by a vote of 85 to 21. Don Weber was re-elected director 95 to 15 over Dr. Jack Hartman. Sweet Home firemen were called to the Willamette National Mill at Foster Monday to combat a blaze in a cinder pile near the boiler room. No damage was reported. Students of the Bethel Lutheran vacational Bible school will ex hibit their handiwork at the parish hall at 8 pjn. Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fallon and Rev. and Mrs. Lee Finley and children are vacationing this week at East Lake. Their friends are looking forward to some big fish stories on their return. The adult Bible class of the Church of Christ, 18th avenue and L street, will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Long, east of Cascadia, Sunday. Transportation will be furnished. New chairman of the board Is Waldo Lowery, succeeding out going board member Andy Gil christ. The other member of the three-man board is Warden Gou ley. Gervais Odd Fellow Lodge No. 121 and Harmony Rebekah Lodge No. 75 held their annual straw berry shortcake feed in Quinaby Hall. A short program preceded the feed. About 100 persons were ! present. Western Garb Heralds 1952 Event June 28 Statesman Naws Sarriee DAYTON Western garb pro dominates the costumes seen in this town as Dayton prepares to host the sixth annual Dayton Buc keroo June 28 and 29. Presiding over the events will be Queen Jean Keller of the Sheridan Center Club, assisted by First Princess Sally Phillips of the Tillamook Saddle Club and Second Princess Elinoro Mulvihlll of the Silverton Saddle Club. This year, top cowhands will vie with Harley Tucker's famed rodeo stock In the show which is making its debut as approved by the Rodeo Cowboy's Association. In addition, the Buckeroo Association has again purchased wild Indian pon ies for the wild horse races. The parade will open the festi vities Saturday morning. Juno 28. Representatives of Northwestern Oregon Riding Clubs will partici pate and local organizations will enter floats. Parade chairman Is E. W. Budke. The rodeo afternoon will bo hold at the Buckeroo grounds west of Dayton. The eve ning street dance climaxes the day's events. Amity Bible School Draws 88 Children lUUtmta Nawa Sarrlae AMITY The Amity dally Va cation Bible School, which in cluded workers and students from the four churches in Amity, closed its two weeks program Friday. Eighty-eight children registered, with 68 average attendance. Mrs. Robert Powell was superintendent. Leaders were Donna Beard, kin dergarten; Mrs. M. J. Lehman, primary; G. E. Gillaspie, Juniors. Mrs. T. V. Newman is treasurer. The Amity Firemen's auxiliary staged a talent show June 12, at the High School gymnasium. Paul Armstrong Revue of Salem, which included two of his Amity students, Catherine Stocker and Joyce Wil liams, took part. Proceeds will be added to the' respirator fund. Kenneth Meeker, graduate of Oregon State college, Is at the home of his parents Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Meeker. He received the rating of 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force and will report for duty at Fort Tinker, Oklahoma, August 18. Silverton Youth To Enter Medical School Next Fall lutHBia Nawi Service SILVERTON Ernest Duvall, graduate of Willamette University this spring, will enter the Univer sity of Oregon medical school In Portland in the fall. He Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Duvall. The Silverton High graduate at tended Willamette University on a scholarship from the Salem Ro tary Club. It was also voted to sell the old school house and property. Bethel Pfc James W. Hilborn of Fort Ord has arrived at the home of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Nile W. Hilborn. on three day pass. He must report in at Fort Ord Thursday. His father will ride down with him and return home by train. His fiancee. Brandt, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Brandt, has received his discharge from the army. He served almost four years, including tours in Japan and Korea.
