Communist boss Walter Ulbricht Moscow's most trusted German agent declares in a speech to Soviet Zone railway workers in East Berlin that "armed defense ofour homeland must be organ ized" to ? block the West's "en slavement of all Germany." The aim obviously was to scare East Germans into believing they must prepare to fight against be ing swallowed up by "the great landowners, the magnates and the bankers"; and frightening West Germany out of finally ratifying her complex of treaties with the Western Allies. Rossellini May Answer Drug Charge LOS ANGELES (JP) - Roberto Rossellini Friday asked and won court permission to answer charges of immorality from Ingrid Berg man's first husband, Dr. Peter Lindstrom. Superior Judge Mildred Lillie gave the Italian film director two weeks possibly more to get here. A' question arose immediately: Can Rossellini obtain a visa for entrance into the United States? His entry has been opposed pre viously by high officials. Dr. Lindstrom has testified that the Italian who wooed away his wife "has a reputation as a drug addict and a habit of living with mistresses who are married to other men." W The Army son of the fasting Ozark preacher returned home Friday from Korea to join five other chil dren in their vigil over their weakening father. The Rev. J. J. Ivio claims to have been without food now for 47 days. Pfc Marvin I vie, 23, arrived in St. Louis by plane and was driven home by members of the family. He had been in Korea about 11 months and was sped back with Red Cross help at Mrs. Ivie's re quest. Mrs. Ivie said her husband, 57, an Assembly of God minister, continues to weaken physically, although his mental processes ap pear normal. (JP) An error discovered by one county auditor Friday helped Sen. Robert A. Taft o f Ohio improve his South Dakota primary election lead over Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower for 14 presidential delegates. The Hutchinson County auditor, Eugene Koerner, reported he dis covered an error in the unofficial poll book which gave Taft an addi tional 84 votes and took 91 away from Eisenhower. The vote change in itself was not significant, but it indicated that material changes in the vote could be possible when the official county canvass is made Saturday. Taft is now leading by 820 votes. With the change, the unofficial tabulation gave Taft 64,840, Eisen hower 64,020. Reds Warned By Ridgway STE. MERE EGLISE. France (JP) Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway de clared in a D-Day anniversary speech Friday the West would suf fer dreadfully if Communist chief tains started a new war, "but it would bring destruction to them and their power." The supreme commander of Al lied powers in Europe, who para chuted behind Nazi lines in Nor mandy as commander of the 82nd Airborne Division several hours ahead of the main invasion waves June 6, 1944, issued this warning to what he called "a new and more fearful totalitarianism." Speaking at nearby Utah Beach, Ridgway said: "The last time I camo here, I came as one of the thousands to wage war. This time I come to wage peace." He referred to "the illimitable reservoirs of our own strength" and suggested the lords of Com munism should not interpret the West's patience and tolerance as signs of weakness or a declining civilization. Western Union Asks to Boost Telegram Cost WASHINGTON (JP)- The West ern Union Telegraph Co., Friday asked government permission to boost its domestic telegram and money order rates by an average of 9.3 per cent so it can give its workers a pay boost. It asked the Federal Communi cations Commission (FCC) for in creases which would generally add from 5 to 10 cents to the pres ent cost of sending a 15-word telegram. The higher rates will go Into effect In a month, on July 6, un less the commission holds they are unreasonable. Guy Troy of St. Petersburg, Fla., slipped to second place with 17 when he wound up eighth in the race over the Olympics-app.-oxi-mated course at the military aca demy golf links. Mc Arthur's time for the grind, which is about two and one-half miles, was 14:42. Beer Drinkers Seek Champion MADRID (JP)- Top Spanish beer drinkers are "fighting" for the right to represent Spain in the European beer drinking cham pionship this summer. The Spanish contest is organiz ed by the recently constituted Na tional Federation of Beer Drink ers. The federation, which already has 5,000 members, is also the or ganizer of the European cham pionship to be held in Madrid. Countries invited are Germany, England, Italy, Belgium and Swit zerland. Every foreign competitor will compete with the beer of his own country. The Spanish record is 7.9 quarts drunk in an hour in a tourney in Barcelonia last year.
