County Judge Rex Hartley said moving from the Courthouse, in preparation for construction to begin in July, is expected to be completed by June 23, in order to give extra time for razing of the present building. However, telephone switch board service, a new project, will not be available in the new loca tion until June 15. A contract for construction has not been signed yet with Viesko and Post of Salem, low bidder, but decision is expected within a few days after recommenda tions are received from the archi tect as to alternates to omit in order to save funds. The new building will require removal of the four large spruce trees on the courthouse grounds, one of which has been the Cher rians lighted Christmas tree most years since 1913. What other trees can be saved from destruction by the project has not been settled. The County Court said the "doughboy" statue facing High Street, in memory of World War I dead, will remain there at least until construction is completed, though it might be moved to a different location then.
