JUVENILES RELEASED
Release to their parents of four
boys charged recently with crimes
in Marion County was reported
Monday by Juvenile Judge Joseph
B. Fclton. He said two from Inde
pendence and one from Corvallis
were involved in larceny and one
from near Salem in writing bad
checks. All will remain under cus
tody and supervision of the Ju
venile Court.

MEASLES TOPS LIST
Measles continued to top Mar
ion County's caseload of commu
nicable diseases last week, al
though down to 18 new cases from
35 the previous week. The county
health department, on the basis
of physicians' reports, also noted
six cases of chickenpox, five each
of influenza and broncho pneu
monia, four of scarlet fever, three
, of tuberculosis, two of conjuncti
vitis and one each of rheumatic
fever and septic sore throat.
JAYCEES MEET AT NIGHT
Instead of the regular luncheon,
Salem Junior Chamber of Com
merce will meet at 7 o'clock to
night at 268 S. Commercial St.
Speaker will be Robert Harris of
Salem, on his experiences with
Scotland Yard.
Barker to Speak
Herbert Barker will speak on the
labor movement at the Hollywood
Lions Club meeting Wednesday
noon at the Lions Den.
Mrs. McAfee,
86, Succumbs:
Rites Today
Mrs. Sara Rovilla McAfee died
Sunday at the age of 86 years at
her residence in Salem Route 7.
She had been in poor health for
some time.
Services are to be held today at
the W. T. Rigdon Chapel, 1:30
p. m. with the Rev. Robert San
ders officiating and interment at
City View Cemetery.
She was born Sarah Rovilla Na
tion . in Chebanse, 111., May 4,
1866, and remained there until she
married George McAfee at Cheb
anse in April, 1888.
Shortly after marrying they
moved to Belville, Wis., and later
Lto Dodgeville Wis., coming to Sa
lem in reb., Her nusoana
who had been a railroad station
agent, died in 1928.
Mrs. McAfee was the first pres
ident of the Hayesville Woman's
Club and took part in its forma
tion 24 years ago. She also was a
member of the Presbyterian
: Church.

British ship ended the worries
when it contacted the No Name
off the Oregon coast.
Those aboard the craft were Mr.
and Mrs. Ralph Wolbert, Seattle,
me owners, and Cius Olson.
The weary seafarers told the I
Coast Guard they were plagued
by foul weather throughout the
49-day cruise. They said the !
craft's wooden cockpit was ripped
pff in nigh seas and they were
soaked most of the time.
The three were reported in
good condition on their arrhal at
Tillamook Bay.
They generally agreed they
weren't "scared" on the hazard-'
ous voyage but "we never were
so glad to get ashore." i

Trans-Pacific
Sloop Arrives
At Oregon Port
SEATTLE iPi - The trans-Pacific,
sloop No Name, for which
trouble was feared at sea last
week, really ran into it Monday
after readying the safety of an
Oregon port.
The Coast Guard reported the
! vessel went aground at Tillamook
I Bay.
The trouble didn t last for long.
A Coast Guard vessel soon pulled
the No Name free.
Fears were aroused for the
sloop's safety last week because
it was three weeks overdue at
Seattle on a trip from Hawaii. A

tured artery in his thigh. He was
advised to see a doctor.

Mrs. Marian Lowery Fischer,

national convention. Mrs. James
Mott, Salem, first district delegate,
named Mrs. Fischer as her alternate.
