Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Greene are announcing the betrothal of their tJaunghter, Cecilia, to Louie Evoniuk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Evoniuk of Eugene. The wedding is planned for this summer. Miss Greene is a graduate of Providence Academy in Vancou ver, Wash., and is now employed at the Pacific Telephone and Tel egraph Co. Her fiance is a grad uate of St. Mary's high school in Eugene and later attended Mt. Angel Seminary. He is now with the Woodbury Hardware Co. in Eugene. Miss Hamilton to Wed Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Hamilton are revealing the engagement of their daughter, Peggy Ann, to Bill Gipe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Gipe of Salinas, Calif. The wedding will take place in Salem later in the summer. The news was first told at a tea on May 15 at Pasadena Naz arene Colege, where both are stu dents. Miss Hamilton is a gradu ate of Salem Academy. Grant Students To Give Play On Wednesday, May 21, the 6th grade at Grant School will present a play, "The Emperor's New Clothes", for their mothers at 2 o'clock in the school. The leading characters are Kent Lammers as the Emperor; Nelson Ayres as De metrius; Donna Stone as the Em press, John Raclemaker as Rollo. The Mother's tea will be held in room six with Mrs. C. G. Lam mers and Mrs. Fred Zeeb in charge of refreshments. The arrangements for the day were planned by Mrs. Zola Schwiesow, sixth grade teacher. On Thursday, May 29, during the school assembly Frank Ben nett, superintendent of Salem Public Schools, will speak, and awards will be presented to the students. On the committee were Mrs. Dorothy Kinzer, Mrs. Chloe Holden and Mrs. Maude Wetherby. The Camp and Auxiliary will meet at the First Christian Church on Memorial Sunday, May 25. A social meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Ellen Thompson on June 6 with a covered dish dinner at 1 p. m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 15 with members having birthdays in April, May and June to be honor ed at the 1 o'clock dinner. Crescendo Club Senior Recital The Crescendo Club of Salem High School is presenting its third annual senior recital tonight at 8 o'clock in the auditorium of the new State School for the Blind, which is located on Mission Street across from McCulloch Stadium. This program by senior members of the Salem High music club is given especially for the parents, teachers and friends of Crescendo Club members, but everyone in terested is welcome to attend. A reception honoring the sen iors will follow the program. Mrs. Walter Dry, wife of the Blind School's Superintendent, and Mrs. Howard Miller, wife of the advis or to Crescendo Club, will pour. The program will feature vocal solos by Sonia Anderson, Coralie Doughton, Joan Hamman, Herdis Michelson, Frances Thomas, Joyce Younger, Gaylord Hall and Steve Lee. Piano solos will be played by Amy Girod, Gary Jones. San dra Nordyke and Don Smith. Maureen Gustafson will play a violin solo and Patricia Payne will play a clarinet number. Crescendo president, Glenn Benner, will play a trombone solo and a duet will De given by Shar on Lamkin, marimba and Lanny Dibbern, accordion. Mothers Feted By Auxiliary A tea was given on Saturday by Marion Auxiliary 661, Veterans of Foreign Wars honoring the Gold Star Mothers and American War Mothers, at the V. F. W. hall. The tea table was covered with a lace cloth and centered with a crystal bowl containing an arrangement of lilies-of-the-valley, sweetpeas, and columbine in shades of pink and orchid, flanked by crystal candelabras holding orchid can dles. Small tables about the room contained bowls of yellow, pink and orchid spring flowers. Pouring were Mrs. Edith Mudd, past department president,' Mrs. Arwin Strayer, past department president, Mrs. George Mason, president, District 20, V. F. W. auxiliary and Mrs. C. M. Briggs, president of Marion auxiliary. A program of musical numbers was given during the afternoon by the Misses Diane Burkland, Pat Fagg, Patricia Payne, Mrs. Ron ald Craven and Mrs. Virgil Bol ton. Pythian Sisters To Portland Forty-three Pythian Sisters from Centralia Temple, Salem, char tered a bus to Portland on Satur day to attend the visit of the su preme chief, Mrs. Cleone Hogan of Albuquerque, N. M. Mrs. Hogan conducted the initiation for 78 men and women, using the first Pythian Bible for the ceremony.
