McMINNVILLE Three Repub- j lican candidates for county com-j missioner will provide most of the competition for Yamhill County offices in the primaries Friday. They are Charles A. Newman, McMinnville (incumbent): A. N. (Nic) Nicolai, McMinnville; and Raymond V. Williams, Carlton route 1. No Democrats filed for the post. Republican candidates for two state representative posts are Carl H. Francis, Dayton (incumbent): R. H. Windshar, McMinnville, and George Laymon, Newberg. There are no Democratic candidates. Republican candidates without primary opposition include Sheriff W. J. Jones, Coroner Glen C. May. Surveyor H. W. Herring and Ken neth E. Shetterly Sr., justice of the peace at Willamina. Frank Holmes, McMinnville Democrat (incumbent) seeks re- nomination as justice of the peace at McMinnville. Rollin B. Wood, Carlton route 1, is a candidate for the post on the Republican ticket. Other Democrats unopposed in the primary are William H. Kerr, McMinnville. candidate for sheriff; and David J. Boss, Newberg, can didate for coroner. County School Superintendent D. Lynn Gubser seeks a return to office. He is unopposed. Martin, incumbent, seeks re-election. Ho is opposed Food Prices to Increase Soon CLEVELAND (& Some food prices will increase soon but the boosts will amount to " only pen nies" in the housewife's budget. Price Stabilizer Ellis O. Arnall said Tuesday. "The average family is going to have to spend a few pennies more each week for some foods," he said in a speech before the Super Mar ket Institute. " But I am confident that the great system of Ameri can competition will operate to keep those pennies at a minimum." He did not list what foods would be affected. STAYTON Marcel Van Driesehc, candidate for mayor of Stayton. was confined to his home Wednesday with rheum atic fever. Van Driesche, who became til Monday, sold he hoped to be "back on the Job" within a month although his physician had advised that ho remain home "indefinitely. by Marcel VanDriesche.
