Mb Dragons Tally 47 for Victory Canby's Perkett Cops Individual Honors By AL LIGHTNER Statesman Sports Editor The Dallas High Dragons, roll ing up 47 points in all but two of the 14 events, Thursday copped the 1952 Willamette Valley League track and field title in McCulloch Stadium. Sandy's Pioneers were second with 41 points. Candy was third with 37, Estacada fourth with 35, Silverton fifth with 23, Molalla sixth with 21 hi and Wood burn seventh with fVz. Mt. Angel did not compete. Two new records were estab lished, and had it not been for a bad spill by Dallas' Hurdler Gay len DeShon in the low barrier event, chances are a third new standard would have been notch ed. DeShon vaulted 1 1 feet for one of the new marks, replacing the old one of 10 9" which he estab lished last year. The Canby relay quartet of Hanson, Wagner, Herman and Perkett rambled that event in 1:37.8, knocking out the old mark of 1:38 by Molalla's 1948 team. DeShon also tied a record in winning the high hurdles in the time of 16 seconds. He was well out in front of the pack in the low hurdles when he hit the next lo last barrier and fell. Silverton's Norm Funrue won the event in 22:2 seconds, one-tenth of a sec ond off the existing record. De Shon was iully five yards ahead ct Funrue when he fell. V ' Sharing individual honors with DeShon for the day was Canby's Eddie Perkett who won the 100 and 220 dashes, copped third in the broad jump and ran anchor for the record-establishing relay team. Perkett scored 144 points for high honors. DeShon finished with 10 by virtue of his two victories. Gery Gibson of Estacada with a victory in the mile and a second in the half-mile had nine points. Coach Ken Jacobsen and his victorious Dragons took home the large trophy emblematic of the title. H. H.: 1st DShon (D): 2nd McCormick (D); 3rd. Shaw (SU; 4th Walkeer (San); 5th Funrue (Sil).
