Name Address City Phone years of Labor government. The voters made their sharp protest in county elections held during: the past 10 days. It was the Labor Party's biggest victory in these local elections, giving the Socialists control of 12 of Ens land's biggest counties. Bead Baek To the Labor Party, the election results looked like a turn in the road back to power. The Conservatives had expected a setback but not sucn a pasung as they got. Generally the impact of tne Eng lish county council elections on the national scene can be com pared with the results of Ameri an state elections in presidential off-years. By almost any standard they seem to show that Churchill's gov ernment has skidded sharply in popularity since the Conservatives won the bitterly rougm general elections last October. One campaign phrase particular ly has backfired on the Conserva tives. That was the promise of "more red meat" by the conserva tive Party chairman, Lord Wool- ton. "More red meat" since has be come to the avage Briton a phrase which meant less all around austerity. More Austerity Instead, Churchill directed his first attack upon Britain's econo mic difficulties. Britain got more instead of less austerity. "The unpopularity of the gov ernment at the moment is due to the measures which it was forced too take to put things right." ex plained a conservative Party spokesman. "The government has put the interests of the country first and however unpopular its policies it won't flinch from taking needed actions." The spokesman estimated it would take the Con so- vatlvei about: three years te wipe out the country's economic problems. He blamed bad things of govern ment cuts for instance, the cheese ration was slashed just before the elections and growing unem ployment in textile: mills in Lan cashire for the drastic drop in conservative support iaTiTlarN. I I . nns err last ccto A SET Lancashire for the first time t Labor in the county vote. Labor entered the campaign with control of eight countries. It picked up control of four more and, overall, took 419 seats on the 62 county councils away from con servatives or independents. The conservatives gained 44 seats, a few from Labor but mostly from Independents. Tne result shows the deep- seated reaction of misgiving and disappointment with the Conser vatives generally " said a Labor Party spokesman. He said the voters were unhap py about the Conservatives hous ing and food policies and the ris ing cost of living. It would appear that the Labor ites now i eel tnat li tney can pound down the Churchill govern ment in the House of Commons, they can win the next general elections in Britain, The gestation and incubation period amon? elephants is from 21 to 22 months. So they're not content to stop vvjth put ting beneath you cushions that are luxuriously soft and deep. .They also put big, soft, deep coil springs jberween you and all four wheels and big, soft tires between the wheels and the road. But real riding comfort calls for more than cushioning up-and-down jolts and jars. There's end-sway and side-roll and "wander" to be controlled. There's sure footed balance on curves. Not to men tion the importance of having a frame stout and husky enough to make the whole car feel safely solid. So Buick engineers have gone through the list come up with a ride that cost a cool million dollars and more for special engineering, tooling and components. D oes that cover Buick's comfort story? It certainly does not. There's the comfort of driving a car that instinctively holds the road the com fort of ample room and a wide-open view of the world around you the com fort of fabric colors that please the eye and fabric textures that please the touch and the effortless smoothness of Dynaflow Drive. Then there's the mental comfort of boss ing power mighty enough to meet any demand you make upon it in emergency 8-cylinder power high-compression power valve-n -head power Fireball power, that makes you proud of the miles you get from a gallon: of gas. A.nd maybe you'll also find comfort in knowing that this great automobile can be yours at a price that is still just a small step above what's known as "the low priced three.
