Saturday, rohruary 18. 18S2 Annual County Sunday School Meet Feb. 23 -Who Is Christian" Is the theme for the 53rd annual Marion County Sunday School conven tion Saturday. Feb. 23 at Halbert Memorial Baptist Church, Hayes vine. Fred de Vries of Pratum will preside over the program, begin ning at 9:30 a. m. Glenn E. Mc Clellan, vice president, is in charge of arrangements, aided by John Zeeb. The opening service will be fol lowed by an institute on "The Importance of Certainty in Your Relationship to Christ." Those in charge of the groups are J. A. Rickard and the Rev. Russell Mayer for adults, Lee Brant and the Rev. R. E. Sanders for young people, and Mrs. G. R. Clipfell for children. A solo by Mrs. C. P. Walcher and sermon by the Rev. Paul W. Gunther of Salem will complete the morning. After a 12:15 basket dinner will be a service at 1:30 and business and election of officers. The Rev. Mr. Sanders will sing a solo. The institute session will have as lead en Ernest Roth and the Rev. C. P. Walcher for adults, George Wil liams and the Rev. Kenneth Ab bot for young people. The Rev. Wilbert Regier of Pra tum will give the closing sermon. Mission Meet To Take Week For Calvary Miss Clara Olds, a veteran mis sionary to the Crow Indians at Lodge Grass, Mont., will initiate a week long conference at Cal vary Baptist Church Sunday eve ning at 7:30. Men's night, Monday, begins with a dinner at 8:30. The Rev. Raymond Schaefer, recently re turned missionary to West China, will speak. At the Tuesday eve ning Loyalty Class meeting, Miss Sara Louise Walker, Oregon gen eral missionary, is to bring the message. Wednesday night, a missionary play will be presented by the Ster ling Circle. A new film, "The Rivers Still Flow," will be shown on Thursday, the story of the Bap tist Indian School at Bacone, Okla. Wil liam Kirby, evangelist and former pastor and professor of theology at Pacific Bible College. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., 2 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Fri day, 7:30 p.m. Saturday and a closing rally Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2:30 p m. Adult Classes Begin Sunday A series of adult classes on "The Christian Way of Truth and Life" will begin Sunday at 4 p.m. in St. Mark Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. John L. Cauble, pastor. The public classes will last one hour, devoted to informal dis cussion of questions about the Bible and the church. The church will show the film, "Dust or Destiny," at its Sunday night service. Osgood Bengal-Orissa EVERYONE CORDIALLY INVITED Bishop Northwest EUB Ministers Due Here for Conference, Concert Annual mid-winter ministers meeting of the Oregon and Oregon Washington Conferences of the Evangelical United Brethren Church will be in Salem Monday to Wednesday. The conference will be held in First EUB Church, with the Rev. W. N. Brown, a host pastor. Guest speakers will Include Ira D. Warner, bishop of the Pacific area; II. E. Mueller, professor or Biblical literature and practical theology at Western Evangelical Seminary, Portland, and E. Sterl Phinney, professor of church his tory and the history of religion at Western. Conference Superintendents C. P. Gates and E. A. Fogg of the Oregon - Washington Conference, and W. C. Hines of the Oregon Conference, will preside. The Rev. Hubert Ulrich of Corvallis will serve as chorister. Opening service will be at 7:45 Monday evening. Bishop Warner will preach on "The Minister as a Man," and will preside at a service of holy communion. A sacred concert will be pre sented Tuesday evening at 7:45 o'clock by two male chorus groups, the Gospel Gleemen, composed of ministers from the two confer ences, and the Salem Singers, com posed of Christian businessmen of Salem. Each chorus will's ing sev eral selections, with one group pre sented by the combined choruses. Both evening services are open to the public. Daytime sessions will be devoted to periods of devotion and Bible study, and discussion periods of pertinent problems in church work and administration. The conference will conclude Wed nesday noon Martin Leads Men In Church Meets Dr. George Martin of Salem Is conducting sections on steward ship at three regional meetings being conducted by the laymen's commission of Oregon Congrega tional churches. Representatives of 49 churches are attending the meetings, first of which was last Sunday at Bea verton. Next will be Feb. 24 at Clackamas and the last on March 2 in Salem. Martin is chairman of Willam ette University's education department. 2 YFC Rallies Set in Salem This Week End The film "Counter Attack" will be shown at the Salem Youth for Christ rally tonight at 7:45 in Bush School auditorium, Univer sity and Mission Streets. Another rally is set for Sunday at 3 p.m. The picture tells "the plight of modern youth in a bewildered world." Music by Salem Academy choir will be on the program. The Sunday meeting will be in Leslie Junior High School audi torium, led by Dr. Bob Cook of Chicago, Youth for Christ inter national president since 1948. A graduate of Moody Bible In stitute, W h e a t o n College and Eastern Baptist Seminary, Cook has been in Europe five times in the past three years.
