Polenta is a sturdy forthright dish out of old Italy, lust the
family should whisk up for his next buffet dinner menu. It's
sort of thing the man of the
simple to make, by the way.
Spanish sauerkraut and frankfurters make another dish that's especially suited to the
he-man cook who, though he'll probably not admit it, is an amateur. This, he'll like to try on
the family.

Man
s Place in Kitehen
At Least for This Day
" By MAXINE BUREN ?
Statesman Woman's Editor ,
1 Come Intothe kitchen "Merten, Sunday is National Husband
In the Kitchen Day.
' This world-shaking event has been instituted so the man of
- :. the house will become familiar with kitchen
equipment and gain in confidence in bis culina
ry talents.
Yes, sir, that's what they say, though the
identity of "they" has been kept a secret, and
we challenge him to produce a single man,, who
ever flipped a hotcake or tossed a salad that
lacked for self confidence in his newly acquired
talent. '
Some men, and the number is gaining, have
a flare for cooking, and can whip up a Sunday
dinner just like that, But the greater number of
the stronger sex are weak in the kitchen. ,

' WITH PERFECT EASE
Show me the man, when be starts to bubble
up a barbecue sauce or broil a steak, who doesn't stand in the
middle of the 'kitchen and bawl for a fork, pepper or bottle of
vinegar and S QS. for the little woman to show how to turn on
tha leftfflff frprnir. f ..-.i ft-
"This; of course; results in the rightful Sovereign of the Kit
chen biting her nails to the knuckles and ending up the day a
virtual wreck when Papa does his stint in the kitchen. f
Then there are materials, too. One man we heard boast so
many times about his prowess as a cooker of pheasant, that we
finally persuaded him to bring his recipe. Well who couldn't
make something out of a luscious wild fowl and a pound of but
terf -ia,
Then there was the man who bunt up a fine verbal reputa-.
tion as a salad dressing maker. The recipe commenced "Obtain
H cup onion juice by putting chopped onions in an old sock and
squeezing it.
HIS RIGHTFUL PLACE
A man, we think, should know his way around a casserole
and be at ease among the soup kettles. There's nothing he can
cook that's any more robust and masculine than a well seasoned
soup or a luscious blend of ingredients cooked in a casserole and
baked slowly to a luscious crispy brown.
Teach your man the meaning of economy in the kitchen, we
always say. Give him a three-dollar steak and, unless he produces
charcoal, he's bound to make something of it. But see what he
can do with pot roast.
And remember give your man a three-dollar steak on Sun
day, and you'll be starving the children on hamburger for a week.
So Sunday will be National Husband in the Kitchen Day, so
OK Merton," let's see what you can do to boost your self-confidence
and become more familiar with the kitchen equipment, be
cause as we told you, that's what they say the day is for.
