ANGEL f Sgt. and Mrs. Richard Hessel -and son, Rickey, arrived this week for several days stay at the home of his mother Mrs. Joseph Hessel and to visit with relatives and friends. Sgt. Hessel, who is a veteran of World War H and has served in the southeastern states for the past five yearsj will leave New York for Austria on January 4. Dallas Polk County Treasurer Tracy Staats is back to work after being confined to his home for the past six weeks following a xail in bis woodshed. While he has been away from the office Mrs. Staats has been assisting with the work at the courthouse. Mill City Mrs. S. C. Bennett was hostess for a no-host dinner Wednesday for the Women's Coun cil of the Christian church. Fol lowing the dinner there was a Christmas program led by Mrs. Paul Williams and Mrs. Hugh E. Jull. A gift exchange followed. Salem Heights The O-Te-Ku-Ye Camp Fire group of the fifth grade, of Salem Heights school held a Christmas party Wednesday evening at the hoine of Mrs. Floyd McCellan on Ratcliff drive; Games were played and the group sang Christmas carols and exchanged gifts. Hubbard E. C. Boyd underwent surgery in a Salem hospital last week and was brought to the Woodburn hospital Friday. Valley Obituaries Effa Rare Weaver DALLAS Effa Roye Weaver, a resident of Dallas for the past 52 years, died at her home here Sun day after a five-week illness. She was born June 8, 1878, at John Day. She was married to William H. Weaver in 1928 at Dallas. The deceased lived . at Brownsville for 20 years prior to coming to Dallas. She was a member of the Meth odist church, the Missionary so ciety, the Circle Mary Royal and of the Order of Eastern Star. Surviving in addition to the husband are a sister, Mrs. W, L. Soehner of Dallas; stepdaughter, Mrs. Clifford Garland of Halsey; stepson, Ralph Weaver of Blodg et; four grandchildren, and sev eral nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Dallas Methodist church Wednesday, December 28, at 1:30 p. m, with the Rev. Fremont Faul officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Bethel School Has Yule Play lUtnaua Ncwa Service BETHEL A play "The Musical Christmas Cards," was sung in a cappella manner on Friday night by all the pupils of the school as their Christmas offering for the pleasure of their parents and friends The play was directed by Mrs. Lee Doan, teacher of the school.
