Is Mary Lee
Mary Louise Lee, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Clare A. Lee, Sa
lem, has been chosen Willamette
university Co-Ed of the month for
December, it was announced
Thursday on the campus.
The Associated Women Students'
gold trophy will be presented to
Miss Lee during the first Tuesday
convocation following vacation and
the Soroptomist club will honor
her as a special guest at one of
their Wednesday luncheons next
month.
Miss Lee, a member of Pi Beta
Phi, was chosen by a board com
posed of President G. Herbert,
Dean Regina Ewalt, the student
body president, Sherman Bliss,
and members of the Associated
Women Students cabinet.
She is now editor of the Colle
gian, Willamette's weekly publi
cation, and has served as society
editor, campus editor and news
editor of the paper. She has also
handled publicity for the Wallu
lah, the university's year book.
Miss Lee, a senior, is also a
member of Theta Alpha Phi, dra
ma honorary, Cantebury club,
UNESCO, and is now serving as
recording secretary for Pi Beta
Phi. She was a member of Beta
Alpha Gamma, sophomore wom
en's honorary.

From the east comes news of
the engagement of a former Sa
lem girl, Miss Elizabeth Spore of
Geneva, Ohio, to Austin M. Fields,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Smith Fields
of Salem. No date has been set for
the wedding.
The bride-elect is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Spore
of Geneva, formerly of Salem. She
attended Salem schools and is now
employed in Geneva. Her fiance is
a graduate of Salem schools and
is now stationed in Alaska with
the navy.

Walton League auxiliary, Salem
chapter, was held Wednesday

Kolsky. The group exchanged gifts
and held installation of officers.

On Wednesday
A Christmas party was enjoyed
by members of Unit 136, Ameri
can Legion auxiliary on Wednes
day night at the Salem Woman's
club, with an exchange of gifts.
The club rooms were decorated
with holly, greens, a tree and red
tapers.
At the business session the unit
voted to purchase pajamas for vet
erans at the tuberculosis hospital
as Christmas gifts. The grup dis
cussed plans to purchase pillow
cases for the Scrapbaggers to em
broider for the Portland Veteran's
gift shop.
Mrs. Kenneth Taylor reported
on the Marion county assembly
held last week in Silverton, at
which time Mrs. Jerome Hansen
was elected sergeant-at-arms. The
auxiliary will send defense stamps
to a Christmas shower for the de
partment president.
