Statesman Society Editor. I The winter dancing season is in full swing with all of the twelve formal dancing clubs in the city entertaining with dances this month. The dancing clubs play an impor tant role in the social life of Salem during the winter months and today we"have pictured a few of the women in their formal gowns as a representative group of the clubs."' 'The total membership of the clubs is nearly two thousand with some scheduling dances once a month and others four or five times a season. . f l , ; , There is much entertaining before and after the dances and numerous out-of-town guests are here for the various dances. Formal gowns are the topic, of much conversation this time of the year as milady selects a new dancing frock, many wearing their new gowns, for the first time during the holiday dances. Even the men ' go shopping for a new tuxedo, dress shirt or accessories, so in all, the dance season is a dressy occasion and an occasion for much elegance and splendor. ;.
