Although there are a few so cailed fold" plantings in the Willamette valley and along the coast, most new. plantings have been made since World War XL There are now some half a dozen plantings In Marion county, Don L. Rasmussen, Marion 'county agricultural agent, said today as two of these plantings were in-a-ected by around 25 people, on the county's first blueberry tour. The tour was planned by Rasmus arv First of the two stops was at the B. T. Jackson, route 1, Woodburn rxrfch. Jacksons came to the val ley from Redmond In 1943 and br.ught the farm " which already bed some blueberries set out. Ccrae of these bushes" are now a7en yean old. More bushes were p'ltted In the past two years to sr. : '-e three acres In all. ' Yfiej showed the visitors how tfet berries were picked from sit trut on a box, as well as how the berries are packaged. The Jack eons have been disposing of their fruit both at the ranch and at a roidside fruit stand 1 on highway From the Jackson place, the group went to the James Bright -farm a mile south of Woodburri on highway WE where two acres of borries were viewed. This is their first year ; of commercial bearing and the crop was light. Bright, a retired army man who came here In 1946, said he has more custo mers than berries so far. The field was. beautifully tended and the fruit large. Bushes were set out seven feet apart each way., pick ing in both places will continue until early August, the growers stated. : A special guest on today's tour was Arthur Boiler, in charge of blue berry research work at Ore gtmS State college.
