Wesley Hawk Succumbs to Crash In j unes Wesley Orville Hawk, 39. 390 Browning ave superintendent -of the Springbrook Packing plant near New berg, died early Tuesday at McMinnville hospital of Injuries Incurred Monday In an auto acci dent south of Dayton. ' Hawk, a longtime resident of Salem, was Injured when his car lunged out of control while he was enroute from Salem to his Spring brook job. He had taken the posi tion only last week. Until taking the new job Hawk had been assistant superintendent of the Reid, Murdock company cannery here. He had been with the Salem firm since 1930. Born at Cherokee, Iowa, May 4, 1911, Hawk 'came to Salem with his parents in 1919. He attended Salem high school. Surviving are his widow, Geraldine Hawk, Sa lem; sons, Wesley OrviHe Hawk II, and Joseph Allan Hawk, both of Salem, and mother, Mrs. Olive M. Wiese, Brookings. The workmen punctured a buried- gas main and gas escaped. : When the crew attempted to move an auto, wmcn was parKea dangerously close to the broken main, the exhaust of the car ignit ed the free gas.
