Recover After
3-Day Decline
NEW YORK, Feb. 18 A
modest recovery today in the stock
market ended a three-day decline.
Ther- was nothing spectacular
In the upturn. The best gains
among the leaders went to a little
more th: a dollar a share.". Only
one of the 15 most active issues
declined, but only one had a plus
it bigger than 50. cents.
The Associated Press average of
60 stocks advanced 30 cents to
$98.40. The industrial component

and utilities 10 ats.
The volume expanded a little to
1,860,000 shares as compared with
yesterday's l,7"n,000 shares. The
Increase in the trading pace was
'welcomed by tl bullish contin
gent, r :t the volume didn't expand
enough to be impressive.
The comparrtfve narrowness of
the market also was a disappoint
ment to the bulls. There were 1,
1J7 individual issues traded of
which -574 advanced and 317 de
clined. The total number traded
was the smallest since December
T. There were 66 new highs and
only one new low.
Corn Leads
Grain Rises
CHICAGO, Feb. 1W-A rush

vided the background for another
advance in grain futures on the
board of trade today. .
Wheat figures closed V-V
higher, corn lil-H higher, oats
L. lower to higher, rye V4 low-
r to 3ty higher, soybeans un
changed to IV4 higher and lard 18

Both new crop wheat and oats
deliveries developed quite a bit
Of weakness toward the close,
however. These wheat deliveries
finished about a cent under their
