Social events for the coming week are planned In honor of the
legislative contingent witii luncheons, teas, dinners and at homes on
the agenda.
For Wednesday afternoon is th 12 o'clock buffet luncheon for
which the supreme court justices wives will be hostesses at the North
Summer street home of Chief Justice and Mrs. James T. Brand. The
affair will honor the wives oneg

Salem Woman's club members
have sent out invitations to their
club meeting and tea on Friday
afternoon in honor of wives of leg
islators and wives of the supreme
court justices. Hours are from two
to five o'clock.
The guest speaker will be C eorge
Root, jr., Portland, interior decor
ator, whose subject is "What's
Happening to Home Decoration,
end Why?" Mr. Root was born in
Portland and is a graduate of the
University of Oregon and received
his master's degree at Columbia
university. He also did graduate
work at UCLA.
For two of the war years, ha
supervised art for the Southern
California school system in the
Imperial Valley, then entered the
decorating and design field in the
Los Angeles area. He came to
Portland to visit his parents for a
vacation two years ago, and has
been decorating for Portlanders
ever since.
He opened his own studio In
Portland last spring, featuring or
iginal-designed and hand-blocked
fabrics, as well as fine furniture
and outstanding decorative acces
sories.
Mrs. Ross Coppick, chairman
of the art department, .will intro
duce the speaker. For the music,
Dean Melvin Geist will sing, ac
companied by Mrs. Geist. There
will be a short business meeting
with Mrs. Howard Hunsaker pre
siding.
