Membership Pinner on Tuesday Governor Douglas McKay will be the guest speaker at the annual YWCA membership dinner on Tuesday night in the Carrier room of the First Methodist church at BJSO o'clock. His subject will be Problems Facing the State as I See Them." The speaker will be introduced by Miss Dorathea 'Uteusloff. Mrs. John Caughell, vice-president of the board of directors, will preside in the absence of the pres ident, Mrs. A. A. Schramm, who is in Denver. The Rev. George H. .Swift will give the devotions and the Rev. Brooks Moore the bene diction. Musical numbers will be iven by Thomas Facy, violinist. Mrs. Bruce Pickett will conduct "Montage," or a series of ver bal pictures presented in inter view form representing the vari ous departments of the YWCA. Appearing on the program will be JTorma Hamilton, Tri-Y; Jodie Bush, Y-Teen; Mrs. Ardo Tarem, newcomers and English classes; Mrs. Dwight Phipps, Tri-Y-Teen jnothers; Miss Kathleen Davis, business and house girls; Miss Margaret Sanders, education class es and ladies dayout. War Brides To Organize A new club, Accent, open to war brides of all nationalities, has been organized in Salem and surround ing communities and Mrs. Elwood Myers was elected president. The first meeting was held Thursday, when officers were elected. Mrs. Robert Pickerell was elect ed vice president, Mrs. Donald Addison, . secretary, and Mrs. Robert Dant treasurer. Plans are to meet once a month (probably the second Thursday) at homes of members. Anyone interested in becoming a member may contact Mrs. Robert Pick erell. All war brides in the area wfll be welcomed. Combined Circles Meet Wednesday The general meeting of the com bined circles of the Women's So ciety of Christian Service of the First Methodist church will meet on Wednesday is the Carrier room with Circle 4 as hostess. Mrs. Ruth Pugate will preside at the busin ess session at 10 a. m. There will be a luncheon at noon followed by a program at 1:30 p. m. Mrs. Don Darby will lead the devotions. Mrs. E. M. Tilton, state president of the WSCS, will speak and her subject will be "Our Re sponsibility Toward the Giver of All Gifts, Stewardship of Per sonality." Miss Ada Hudson, high chool senior, will sing several se lections. Falls City Mrs. Jack Walsh entertained the Poinsetta club at her home. Luncheon was served t o Mesdames Eldon Shepard, James Dickenson, Clarence Leh nert, George Kitchen, Chester Embree, John Gilbert, Doyle Lori mor, Jack Marr. Johnson, who will combine bus iness with pleasure . . . they plan to be away nearly two weeks . . . Headed sooth . . . are Mr. and Mrs. James L. Cooke, who plan to make their home in southern Cal ifornia for the coming year . . . They first will go to Laguna Beach for a sojourn and will also visit several of the desert resorts . . . they are leaving on Monday and if plans materialize they will be home in the summer for a few months ... South bound . . . on Friday were Mr. and Mrs. Roy H. Sim mons, who left for their winter home in Palm Springs . . . they came north to spend the holidays with their children . . . Accom panying Mr. and Mrs. Simmons were their daughter, Mrs. Charles Barclay and her children, Gregory and Laurie, who will remain at the desert resort for six weeks . . . . Mr. Barclay will join his family in the south the end of February for his annual vacation and will accompany them home . . . Welcome home . . . for Dr. and Mrs. Carl V. Emmons, who arrived in the capital Thursday from a trip east . . . they left here the week before Christmas, going south to San Francisco, where they entrained on the Vista Dome for Chicago, where they spent Christmas with Dr. Emmons' j mother, Mrs. W. W. Emmons, and his sister. Miss Lucille Emmons . . . Joining the family in Chi cago for the holidays were the Emmons' son-in-law and daugh ter. Dr. and Mrs. Em mons enjoyed a leisurely trip home through the south taking colored movies of scenic spots en route . . . Their main stops were at the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas, Death Valley and Reno ... Also home . . . from a holi day vacation are Mr. and Mrs. Gienn McCormick and daughter, Glenda Lou, who left Christmas day for a three weeks sojourn in California and Arizona . . . they returned on Saturday . . . Klein sorge will speak on her summer's visit in Europe, telling of some of the historic churches aha visited there, Tuesday at the regular meeting of the Woman's Society for Christian Service at the Meth odist church. The Immanuel Women's Mis sionary Federation will hold its first meeting ol the new year Thursday, January 18, at 2 o'clock in the Fireside room of Immanuel church. Batter- ton were the honor guests at a surprise party on their 48th wed ding anniversary in their home. They exchanged their vows Jan uary 8, 1903 in the Presbyterian parsonage at a double wedding of Mrs. Batterton and her twin sister and Mr. Batterton's brother. The Rev. W. O.
