Recovery in Stock Market Snaps Losses NEW YORK, Oct. lMflVA gen eral recovery in the stock market today snapped a two-day losing streak and put prices ahead by a few cents to more than $1 a share. - The turn-around was brought bout by the railroads which made substantial progress, and virtually every section of the market res ponded. The Associated Press average of today. SO stocks was up 60 cents to $84.10 with the industrial component ahead 70 cents and rails 90 cents. The utilities were unchanged. The volume of trading expand ed on the rise to 2,190,000 shares as compared with yesterday's 1, 870,000 shares, the second day of falling prices. Of the 1,132 individual issues traded, 646 advanced and 246 de clined. There were 72 new highs and only one new low. Markets to Close For Columbus Day $2.75, Pound Paid for Lamb At PI Show PORTLAND, Oct 11 -VPh A price of. $2.75 a pound was paid for each of two champion fat lambs sold at auction at the Paci fic International livestock expo sition here today. Richard Harms, 12, Clackamas, received $264 for his 2-H cham nion lamb. Ray Sawyer. Moscow, Idaho, realized $242 for his FFA winner. It was eight pounds light er than Harms animal. A year ago the top FFA lamb brought $5 a pound, but only $1.45 was raid for the 4-H campion. The champion 4-H steer, a 1,005 pound Hereford, brought Brent Horn, Pilot Rock, $1 a pound from the Coneress hotel. Top price a year ago was 85 cents a pound. The grand champion FFA hog, a Duroc Jersey, brought John Schultheis. Colton. Wash- si pound from the Del Monte Meat company, Portland. Last year! champ sold for $1.20. The University of Idaho receiv ed $1 a pound for its open-class champion hog bought by the Multnomah hotel. The 282 FFA and 4-H steers sold for $90,058, an average of 33.16 cents a pound. The current market price is 31 cents. PP&L Stock Put on Block NEW YORK. Oct lMflVNation- wide syndicate headed by Union Securities corp. today offered pub licly 1.078.744 shares of common stock of the Pacific Power & Light Co. at $14 a share. In mid-afternoon the managers reported the offering received an "excellent reception at the hands of the public and institutional in vestors," with every major area of the country participating in ine purchases.
