    Chest Leaders
Optimistic Over
Salem Drive
Salem will meet its $111,000
goal for the 1950 community chest,
division leaders of the campaign
assured each other at a luncheon
Monday in the Marion hotel.
Carl Hogg and A. C. Haag, co
chairmen, heard plans outlined by
leaders from the automotive and
transportation, contractors and
builders, educational gifts, govern
menta 1, industrial, mercantile,
professional, rural, utilities,
women's and West Salem divis
ions. .. The pre -campaign -work already
Is showing ' financial response.
Division leaders . reported that
they not only were receiving
hearty support from volunteer
workers but also were taking in
Eome sizable contributions. -j
The campaign to solicit individ
uals will start October 3 and end
October 13. The soliciting now
being done is the work of divis
ional leaders seeking special gifts
to be announced later as an in
spiration to the hundreds of men
and women volunteers who will
begin knocking on the doors of
householders. ;
Special emphasis is to be stres
sed this year that giving is not
necessarily to the community
chest but to the children of the
city ; who have associations with
the social and welfare groups.
