Chest Leaders Optimistic Over Salem Drive Salem will meet its $111,000 goal for the 1950 community chest, division leaders of the campaign assured each other at a luncheon Monday in the Marion hotel. Carl Hogg and A. C. Haag, co chairmen, heard plans outlined by leaders from the automotive and transportation, contractors and builders, educational gifts, govern menta 1, industrial, mercantile, professional, rural, utilities, women's and West Salem divis ions. .. The pre -campaign -work already Is showing ' financial response. Division leaders . reported that they not only were receiving hearty support from volunteer workers but also were taking in Eome sizable contributions. -j The campaign to solicit individ uals will start October 3 and end October 13. The soliciting now being done is the work of divis ional leaders seeking special gifts to be announced later as an in spiration to the hundreds of men and women volunteers who will begin knocking on the doors of householders. ; Special emphasis is to be stres sed this year that giving is not necessarily to the community chest but to the children of the city ; who have associations with the social and welfare groups.
