i 1The Stntftimrm. Edna Oregon, Sunday. Auqurt 13J50 Mac Counters Proposal for Censorship WASHINGTON, Aug. Gen. MacArthur's headquarters is proposing that the terms of any censorship Imposed in the Korean war tone apply to sewsgathexfaf in the United States as well, offi cials here said today. This counterproposal from the Far East command came as the Pentagon, backed by even higher Washington officials, was urging MacArthur's headquarters to put into effect a censorship-for-mili- tafy-securirjr. So far as is known, no manda tory order has gone forth from Washington to the Tokyo and field commands. Dispatches up to now apparently have been couched in terms of recommendations or sug gestions. ; However, the reported counter proposal from MacArthur's head quarters apparently is at variance with thinking here. President Tru man has been described as deeply concerned about published and broadcast information coming from the Far East. . . . . rlep Level View - As explained in authoritative Piano Instruction For Appointment Ph. 3-4617 My Students received high grades in auditions at Portland and Salem. Instances of nubile disclosure of tactical military information of value to the enemy have occurred in the Far East. 2. Information released here generally has been within the bounds of military security, al though a new tightening . up was announced yesterday by tne de fense department " Among other things, that an nouncement forbade any. further announcements by the armed for ces of the destination of units which have been alerted. (Since the start Of the K6rean war, all of the armed forces have announ ced the general destination in dis closing that divisions, smaller troop units, air force outfits and navy ships were being readied for over seas service..) .. Clamps Lid en Ships It was disclosed today that Sec retary of Defense Johnson had al so issued another order forbidding the armed forces to announce the movements of naval Vessels, trans ports and military - cargo ships from the west or east coasts, eith er before or after their departure l ne pentagon wants tne r ar East command to set up a defin ite code which will make clear to war correspondents what will and what will not be possible aid to the enemy in planning his daily tactical operations. - In this connection, some officials here have expressed particular concern over release of battlefront information which they said iden tified specific units, gave the exact time of their landing in Korea and, in other instances, forecast troop movements and the routes that would be taken. Pentagon officials say they do not blame the war correspondents, but the failure to provide censor ship guidance such as was estab lished when American forces en tered theaters of operations dur ing World War II. Moreover, these officials point out that the military itself has given out some information of pos sible value to the enemy. . HHo is the largest Hawaiian Is land community.
