That's because the area has no Wartime sDecialties. Normal pro duction is pt such raw materials as lumber, and the only conver sion necessary would be to change consignees: to ship lumber, paper, and blankets to the armed forces Instead of commercial houses. The big Industrial change in the last war was the introduction of shipyards. These now are silent. One big one remains on a standby basis, and cbuld get into produc tion in a relatively few months. -That is not likely, though, since the shipyards left a huge reserve of merchant vessels now in stor age at such ooints as Astoria. Stock Market Drives Ahead To New Gains NEW YORK, July 20-VA war-nourished stock market thrust ahead for the third day running today. Railroad issues stole the show: On average the carriers climbed to a peak since 1948. Individual stocks rolled forward SI to round $3 a share. It was the sharpest daily rise for this group since December, 1948. Other war babies tagged after the rails steels, motors, rub bers, strcrafts, chemicals, oils. Gains ranged from a few cents to an extreme of $5 for one high priced stock. The market value of an stocks - listed on the exchange increased by roughly $1,000,000,000 today alone. For the past ' three days the increase Amounted to around $3,500,000,000, a startling : Jump in paper values for a three-day period. j Trading today expanded to 3, 160,000 shares from 2,430,000 Wednesday and was the highest for the past week. .
