Security leaks Chiefs in Korea TdKYO, July 14-teV-American military commanders today say they ' were concerned about dan gerous leaks of military informa tion on the Korean fighting. They said most of these leaks came from the United States. News stories have disclosed secret in formation ranging from troop movements to the planned use of new weapons in the campaign. Most of the field correspondents re caually worried that some of their dispatches might accidentally reveal security matters. Some of the newsmen have asked for out right censorship. Most of them have requested a check of their Stories by trained security om cers. So far. no formal censorship has been applied in the field such as the military censorship applied during world war IL General Mac- Arthur has said he wants to con tinue a voluntary code with news men cooperating. .But the clamp-down on infor mation Is growing tighter. This long has been expected here be cause military campaigns cannot b conducted with advance aver Using. ; Worry Miutary U.S. Troops Behave Badly Heroicly Under Red Attacks By Tom lJunbert SOMEWHERE IN SOUTH KOREA, Saturday, July 15 -(JP)- An other American retreat along the South Korean front seemed in pros oect todav as North Korean communists crossed the Kum river. The reds have shown smart, tactics since first battling Americans on July 5. Again, they seem to be using their flanking and infiltration moves. These will be hard to-counter untu u. s. iorces are Doisterea enough to meet thrusts anywhere along their line. The probable general with drawal from the Kum river will be another in a series of retreats from such places as Osan, Pyong- taek, Chonan, and Cnocniwon all primarily because of the reds' nvruhplminff minprtnritv in num bers and equipment everywhere, except in the air. At a regimental or divisional level, the South Korea war thus , looks bad for the U. S. Actually, a handful of Americans has yield ed ground doggedly to the reds. r In some cases Americans have behaved badly, discarding weap ons and fleeing in disorganization before the red advance. Some inexperienced American troops, thrown into combat for the first time, have wilted under the fury of the communist assault ; They have panicked , .as have - other soldiers in history when they found themselves cut off and attacked from all sides. I i . But there have been heroes too. SQUARE DANCE skirt . . This colorful skirt Is mada of a red flower-printed cotton trimmed , with two ruffled flounces and four rows of rlck-rack. It's sim ple enough for the average home-sower to make with out a pattern and at little cost Wheat Leads General Drop In Grain Prices CHICAGO, July 14-UP)-Grains sank throughout the session on the board of trade today, ending up with fairly wide losses. For the most part trading went along at a routine pace, although it pick-d up slightly toward the close when lowest prices of the day were recorded. The only con tract to escape the selling was July soybeans, which firmed on prospects of bean and bean oil sales to Germany. Wheat closed 1 to 2 lower, corn l4-2Vi lower, oats IYa-ZK lower, rye 1-2H lower, soy beans 3 lower to 2 cents high er and lard 30 to 40 cents a hun dred pounds lower. ! Some selling was considered profit-taking as grains have had a substantial advance, which, in cidentally, got under way several weeks before the outbreak oi hos tilities in Korea. In addition to hedging, moder ate selling entered wheat on the expectation of higher crop goals hi 1951. After the market closed, the agriculture department set the wheat goal at 1,150,000,000 bush els, up 193.000,000 from this year's indicated croo. However; the arreace allotment of 7Z,8UO,uuu acres .was the same as the final 1950 crop allotment. j .. ' Wisliarts to Run Hillsboro Store L Statesman News Service" r LIBERTY Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wishart will move out of the Lib- erty community to Hillsboro, where they have purchased tne Hillsboro Pharmacy. They will move this wekend and plan to take over the store immediately. Wishart has been employed at the Capital Drug store here for the past nine years as a pharmacist. Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Wishart of Weizer. Idaho, who are Paul Wish art's parents, are here helping with the moving. The Wish arts plan to I sell their acreage on route a. Their deeds match those of Amer ica's other war greats. Like the lanky private who crouched alone at his redhot machinegun for ten. minutes cov ering his outfit's withdrawal . . the sergeant who vaulted out of his burning tank, snatched a ba zooka from nearby infantrymen and knocked out two enemy tanks . . . or the jeep-driving private who grabbed a bazooka when his unit was under attack north o: Chonan and used the anti-tank weapon .against charging red in fantrymen. . South Korea's war thus far has a taste ; unpleasantly similar to uuaaaicanai and Kasserine pass But alter those setbacks come vie tones. No one doubts they are on ine schedule here. Bomber Crash Toll Up to 16 LEBANON, C July 14-)-The toll of a B-50 air force bomber crash near Lebanon rose today to id aeaa. The public information office of the air materiel command at Day ton's Wright-Patterson air force base reported the new total five higher than preliminary figures yesterday. Wright field said the new tota! was authorized by officers of the eighth air force. Biggs field. El Paso, Texas, after "a check of the plane's clearance papers." The bomber plunged into the ground on a farm a few miles west of Lebanon yesterday, exploding s it nit ine muddy field. Hay Fever Victims Offer Funds to Combat Ragweed PORTLAND, July 14-P-Hay fever victims offered today to pun gle up the $100 needed by Clack amas county to wipe out a 50-acre patch of ragweed, the scourge of summer-time sneezers. A Portland hay fever specialis reported several of his patients had volunteered donations of $10 each to eradicate the ragweed. i Better still, a local' utilitv pany, offered its spray equipment and trained operators to kill the ragweed patch on the farm of C JUcComas, of Estacada. On average the advance equaled in scope a rally two weeks ago when the market was trying to recover from the terrific beating inspired by our intervention in Korea. The advance, although equaled two weeks ago, has not been ex ceeded since March 31. The market was not on a one way street iorwara . Dy any means. The rise was frequently spasmodic and closing prices in most cases were tinder the day's best marks. At end of the day prices were gently settling. Trading was the slowest for the week, a disappointment to mar ket technicians who like to see volume jexpand on the way up. Sales of 1,900,000 shares compar ed with 2,660,000 Thursday. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks advanced one point to 71.5. All three components of the index' industrials, rails and utilities were well represented in the gain. , . A total of 1,12a individual Is sues changed hands, of which 744 advanced and 208 declined. New lows were touched during the day by roughly 70 issues. Of the 15 most active Issues, though, only one lost ground. Several factors appeared to be at work as buying influences. For one thing, President Truman took a comparatively optimistic -view of our fighting in Korea. The United States, he told a press con ference late Thursday, will not be pushed off the Korean penin sula. For another thing chances for an increase in corporate taxes within the near future seemed to have dwindled.
