Jittery traders dumped stock on i the market in two waves of sell" trig. : J Key issues were pounded i down $1 to around $4 a share. The market was already weak ened by series of selling attacks which in les sthan three weeks have hacked off roughly . 18,000.- 000,000 from the paper value of all stocks listed on the exchange. Twicer today orders poured into the exchange so rapidly that the i high-speed ticker was left behind in reporting transactions on the floor of the exchange. A midday effort to halt the slide was only temporarily successful Nearly 300 issues sold at new lows for 1950 during the day. Clos- ng prices were at or near the lows of the session. Sales crossed the 3,000,000-share mark for the second day in a row. Turnover of 3,200,000 shares com pared with 3,250,000 Tuesday. The Associated Press average of ; 60 stocks cracked 1.6 to 70.8. a bot tom since Dec. 21 last year. Three weeks ago the market was cruis ing around a four-year peak. Today s war news was scarcely ! calculated to do anything but deep en confusion and strengthen pessimism.- ' ; . 619 Children Register for Swim Lessons A total of 619 children had en rolled for free swimming lessons at Ounger and Leslie pools when registration closed. Wednesday. Vernon Gilmore, Salem park su pervisor, announced , that 346 pu pils are enrolled at O linger and 27rat Leslie. At dinger, the girls' 1 beginner class with 135 novices was the largest group. The Olinger boys' beginner class has 134 pu pils and the Leslie girls' beginners group 115. ! Several changes were announc ed in the Leslie class schedule. Front 11 to 11:30 a. m., the com bined boys' and girls' beginner class from 12 years old and up will nave the pool. The advanced boys' beginner class will swim from 11:30 to noon; boy beginners from 1 to 1:30 p. m.;, girl beginners, 1:30 to 2 p. m.; advanced beginner girls from 2 to 2:30 p. m. and boy and girl swim mers from 2:30 p. m. on.
