Commander, To Fly U.N. Flag By Francis W. Carpenter LAKE SUCCESS, July 7-flV The united nations today cleared the way for appointment of Gen. Douglas MacArthur to be the first supreme commander of -U. si. forces In Korea. It also authorized him to fly the blue and white U. N. flag beside the start and stripes. The U. N. asked nations supply ing forces in the battle against communist North Korea to put them under a unified command headed by the United States. The action was taken by the security council by a 7 to 0 vote. Three members, Egypt, Yugoslav ia and India, abstained and the Ilth member, the Soviet Union, continued its boycott! of the coun cil. ' , Boy Admits Firing Shot at Polo Grounds NEW YORK, July 7 -WV A 14- year-old boy today admitted fir ing a .45 calibre bullet from a rooftop near the Polo Grounds at the time a baseball fan in the ball park was killed July 4 by a slug that size, police reported. Police said the boy. Robert M. Peebles, whote and signed a state ment that he fired the shot from an automatic pistol he found in Central park six months ago. He had slashed his wrists. Linn County Coroner Glenn Huston said he found a suicide note in Hoskin's wallet dated July 2, telling of his intentions to car ry out the murder-suicide pact. "I love my wife," the note read, "but will not let her live and treat the children as she has treat ed me." The couple moved to Albany six years ago from Oklahoma They leave eight children, three of i whom live at home. Hoskins was employed as a poultry house laborer and his wife by a can nery. Atlantic Flights Cut to Aid Far East Airlift WASHINGTON, July 7-WVThe air force said today a "material" cut has been made in military transport flights to Europe to meet a demand for air lift to the Far East The reduction was expected to be for only a short time, officials stated.
