Fry, jr. A large group of women called during the Afternoon hour and In the even ing a number of men. Joined their wives for the .occasion. - In the receiving line were Sirs. Robert M. Fischer, Jr., the xlub president, Mrs. Fry, Mrs. Herbert Winkler. Dr. Helen Pearce. Miss Genevieve. Morgan and Mrs. R. W. Lend. I Outstanding floral note In the living room was a large bouquet ef lavender lilacs in: a glass vase, striking against the- pale green walls and panel doors. From nearly every window In the home one could - look out and see colorful array of spring flowers and flowering shrubs in the gar-1 den. Potted petunias were ar ranged on the stone waH of the terrace with Scotch broom, yel low tulips and lilacs used on the glass tables on the terrace. The oval shaped tea table was covered with a handsome white organdy cloth ' enhanced with white organdy applique. The beautiful, but simple centerpiece was a mass of lilies -of-the-valley arranged In low crystal dishes and in the center a crystal candelabra holding white tapers. Pouring at the tea and eoffee urns were Mrs. Douglas McKay, Mrs. E. M Page, Mrs. Carl . Nel son. Miss Elizabeth Putnam, Mrs Charles A. Sprague, Mrs. Earl SnelL Mrs. William L. Phillips, Dr. Helen Pearce, Mrs. W. Connell Dyer and Mrs. Coburn oraben horst. ' The club gives a sliver tea an nually for the Helen Yockey Memorial fund established for the group's project for the new Sa lem General hospital fund, named in memory of the late Miss Yock ey, a charter member and past president of the Salem Zonta club, MUSGRAVE FOR MAYOR Joe Bourne, President of the Salem Board of Realtors says: "Our business depends upon progress sod new enterprise. Kappa Gamma will hold its formal in itiation Saturday, with members of Delta chapter as guests, at the Senator hotel. .: Following the ln ltation ceremony members of the two chapters and iguests will be entertained at a formal banquet In tha Cherry room with Miss Margaret Simms and Miss Mae Lindsey as general chairmen. The new members to be initia ted are Miss Margaret McDevitt, supervisor of art education In the Salem public schools, ana Mrs. Marjorle Woods, fifth grade teach er at Richmond school. Miss Mc Devitt formerly lived in Corvallls and Mrs. Woods in Albany. Miss Neva Dallas and Mrs. De- nlse Murray are in charge of the program with the theme Tonight We Enjoy the Culture, of Other Lands." Mrs. Leopold Posplsil, who Is attending Willamette unl varsity, will talk 1 on Czechoslo vakia and Miss Freda Chearington will tell the group about her ex periences, in England. Musical numbers will be given by Thomas Facey, violinist, who will be accompanied by Mrs Franklin Ward. Before coming to Salem Mr. Facey was concert master and associate coordinator for California Junior Symphony, Talks on Liberia Woman's auxiliary to St. Paul's Episcopal church will meet Fri day at 1:30 in the parish house. Mrs. Lincoln Olson in troduced members of the Gold Star Mothers and Mrs. Sarah Pet erson introduced the American War Mothers. Unit members with their own mothers as guests were introduced. Following a; I short business meeting Elmer Church of the Marion County Pplio Foundation committee gave a talk on the needs and purposes of the organ! zatlon. A generous contribution was voted by the unit for the foundation. The Salem Civic Players gave a skit entitled "Faint Heart,' which was played by Mrs. Agnes Drurnmond, Mrs. Helen Lucas and Mrs. James Baer, with Miss Beu lah Graham directing. Take this one for instance, it uses cabbage, hamburger or ground beef and macaroni, yet is a nice . dinner dish when completed. ; STUFFED CABBAGE . h pound ground beef ' 1 teaspoon salt .1 cup -inch macaroni, - Vi teaspoon pepper cooked . f cup brown sauce cup milk s Mix meat with macaroni, milk, salt,! pepper and brown sauce (may.be beef cube In water). Cut a slice from the top of a medl- 1 urn sized cabbage, remove center and fill with the meat mixture. Cover with the slice of cabbage which was removed, tie in a square of cheese cloth and steam for IVi hours or until tender. Plate on a round plate, remove cloth and surround cabbage with brown mushroom sauce or tomato sauce and garnish. . BROWN MUSHROOM SAUCE Vi pound mushrooms 5 tablespoons flour 1 cup cold water 1 cups brown stock ' cup butter Salt 'and pepper Wash mushroom-, remove items and chop or slice thin. Boil for about 20 minutes in the water, there should be about Vi cup juice. Cook mushroom caps in the butter until clear. Remove, and to the fat In the pan add the flour, stir until smooth then add the remaining ingredients, adding mushroom caps after sauce if com pleted. : Browned almond sauce for fish is. elegant, and can be made limply BROWNED ALMOND SAUCE Vi cup salted almonds Few grains pepper i tablespoon butter .1 cup thin cream 1 tablespoon flour Melt the butter, add flour, and pepper and add the almonds. When heated and butter and flour are blended, add the oream Slowly and stir until smooth.
