Government Study
CHICAGO Jfh The machinery
of government may be overhauled
in about half of the states. The
Council of State Governments says
reorganization studies are under
way in at least 23 states. The gen
"eral aim is to step up efficiency
and to save money by eliminating
duplicating functions and overlap
ping operations.
; The surveys are being made by
special commissions in some states
and legislative councils in others.
States that have authorized such
studies include Arizona, Calif or-
nia, Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho,
Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Mi
chigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ne
vada, New Hampshire, New York,
North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Okla
homa, Pennsylvania, South Caro
lina, Tennessee, Texas and . Wisconsin.
