Iindley and the late Mr. Lindley, to William K. Pax son, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn S. Paxson, all of Salem. No plans have been made for the wedding. The news was told Saturday night at the Gamma Phi Beta sorority house when the petite, brunette bride-elect passed daisies to her 'sisters" with a note at tached revealing the engagement. Call as. 71 If Varied Tables Arranged by Members Salem Garden club members heard Fred Edmunds of Portland give an interesting talk on roses at the Monday afternoon meeting1 at the Salem' Woman's clubhouse. Singing on the program were two Willamette - university students. Betty Jean Mullln and Bob Gwinn, accompanied by Beverly Gustafson Out-of-town guests present were Mrs. Jack Bartlett of Brooks and Miss Ruth S. Barber of Sil verton. Birthdays of the month were honored and the birthday table was arranged by Mrs. Ben MazwelL A pale green satin cloth covered the table with a center- Eiece of daffodils in a yellow obnall glass vale. Three surprise tables were ar ranged including one by Mrs. Keith Powell, which was a min iature garden with girls carrying baskets filled with Cowers, a pool and trees of acacia. A white tree to which were tied Shamrocks with Christmas roses at the base centered the table arranged by Mrs. Walter Smith. Mrs. George Bean's table was centered with cabbage filled with daffodils and flanked by Irish potatoes dressed as men with green hats and green dishes on a white cloth to carry out the St. Patrick theme. At the tea hour Mrs. Lester Barr and Mrs. Hall Lusk poured. Others on the tea committee were Mrs R. H. Winslow, Mrs. Mae Service and Mrs. Walter Smith. I Sewing Club to Meet Thursday SILVERTON Mrs. A. J. Mc- Cannel will be hostess at her Wal do hills home Thursday at an all day meeting toethe American Leg ion Sewing club. A no-host dinner will be served at noon. Pajamas for the women patients' at the veterans hospital in Port land and pieced pillow tops for convalescents there will be worked on. Twenty-five of these pillow tops have been sent to the hospital as part of the sewing clubs' project for the year and several more are nearly completed to be sent in the near future. A women's ward has been In cluded following the second World War to care for Wacs and Waves and other women's divisions which participated in the war. Members will also discuss the candy sale which the auxiliary unit Will hold in connection with its regular meeting in Legion hall on March IS. The sale is to benefit the budget for the junior girls being directed this year by Mrs. H Greenfield. i Teacher to Be Speaker ! St.. Arpke was honored at a surprise party on her 80th birthday Sunday afternoon at her Marion street home when her two daughters, Mrs.. Wilbur M. Bush and Mrs. Floyd N. Lancaster of Portland, entertained. Fifty of her friends called between 2 and S o'clock. Mrs. Arpke has lived here the last 25 years and also has a son, Albert, who resides in Salem.
