American Leg Ion auxiliary was officially chang ed to the Past Presidents Parley at the meeting hel Friday night at the Fred Lucht home. Tiie change war a part of the revision of the constitution which was read and accepted in its re Vised form Friday pight Another Important change Was that more flexibility was given in time of meetings. The report was made by Mrs. E. L. Starr. 1 , The parley met for a 7 o'clock no host dinner at which Mrs. Lucht had arranged a table center of begonnias and red tackers. Mrs. Arthur Gottenberg presided and Mrs. Lucht served as secretary. Plans were made for the annual Jitney supper which is given by the past presidents each spring to cover expense of the past presi dent's pin. The program is given by the members of the group. Ar ranging the supper are Mrs. C. H. Dlckerson, Mrs. Thomas Blundell, and Mrs. John Demas. Plans call for the event at one of the April meetings of the auxiliary, with the public invited! to attend the program and supper. Reports at thai Friday night meeting, showed that Mrs. Roscoe Reeves, who recently submitted to a major operation i much im- E roved and will be able to go to er home soon. Mrs. Reeves, a past president, was sent a card by the membersnln. Mrs. C. H. Dick- erson was also reported ill at her Home. ! ' A letter was read from Mrs. . A T . who lives-at Citrus Heights, Calif. Members were told that Mrs. Arm strong lives m.1 uie.iame piace me has been residing, but that the city changed its name from Rose ville to Citrus Heights. Mrs. Arm strong's daughter, Leah, is in her first year college, the message stated. The' family lived here for a number of years and were active in Legion and auxiliary work while here. j : . Announcement was made that the March meeting would be held at the home of Mrs. T. P. Heiden strom. An announcement was al so read of the birth February 1 of tne rirst grandchild to Mrs. Mable Lerf aid, a former member ef the group. The parents i of the little girl are Mr. and i Mrs. Vance Olson. Paternal grandparents are 'the John Olsons of Silverton. During the social hour Friday night, Mrs. Lucht, accompanied by Mrs. A. J. McCannel, gave a group SUUsmam Ntw Service JEFFERSON Members of Past Noble Grand club met last week at the home of Mrs. Wil liam Skelton. Mrs. Howard Hamp ton was received as a member of the club, and an all day meeting was planned for February 23 in the hall to work on a quilt. A pot luck dinner will be served at noon. Tuesday hostesses were Mrs. Skelton and Mrs. Charles Smith, Jr. Mrs. Maude Epley came home last week, from Dallas, where she has been a guest of her brother since December 23. She Is much improved in health and can now walk with the aid of her cane. Jim "Hap" Blackwell, whose leg was broken when he was struck by an automobile in Mill City during the recent snow, this week returned to work in the Southern Pacific yards at Albany. The Busy Beavers forestry club met in the fifth grade room with seven members present. They re ceived their project books and discussed projects. Their next meeting will be on February 20. McCarthy to cJName Names' In Red Probe WASHINGTON, Feb. 18 Wh Senator McCarthy (R-Wis) pro mised Saturday to give the senate "detailed Information" Monday to support his charge there are 57 card-carrying communists in the state department. McCarthy declined at a news conference to say whether he will give names in the senate speech. The state department has said it knows of no communists on its rolls and has asked McCarthy to furnish the names he says he has. So far the senator has refused to do so. "But I am not altering my charge In the slightest," McCarthy declar ed. "I can back up everything I have said.1 Senator Edwin C. Johnson (D Colo) said meanwhile that the sen ate commerce committee he heads will investigate the background of Michael J. Lee, chief of the com merce department's far eastern di vision. Senator Malone (R-Nev) de manded such an investigation yesterday. of vocal solos, and group singing followed. On the wayout Miss Truman posed for photographers. "I'm not running; for anything," Miss Truman replied with a smile. Later at a reception Pepper and his wife invited Miss Truman to their home but she regretted she did not have time for the visit. Miss Truman agreed to appear for photographs with both candi dates, or not at all, and that was the way it was arranged. She stood between the men and held by the arm during the picture taking.
