1 ' i Clues, breys Tie for Lead W-Salem, Cards, Golds Lose Junior Games Both Harry Mohr's Leslie Blues and Hank Landis' Parrish Greys today find themselves all tied up for the lead and looking forward to round No. 3 in the City, Junior high basketball race, as a result of makeup games played Tuesday. The Blues bounced the Leslie Golds handily, 43-19, in their mix at Leslie, and at the same time the Greys were downing West Salem, J 1-1 8,. and the Parrish Pioneers were nosing out the Cardinals in an- overtimer, 29-27. Thus the Blues and Greys now have two straight wins while the other clubs have at least one loss. Chuck Puhlman's 13 points led the Blues to their easy win. Larry Springer lad lb for the Golds. Dennis Garland's field hit won the game for the Pioneers in the over time period after the teams had been tied at 27-all at the end of the regular game. Pierce hit 15 points for the Pioneers and both Joy and Cummins had nine for the Cards. Jim Rice's 15 markers paced the Greys to their easy win. Jerry Curtis had seven to top West Sa lem scoring. City College of New York (9-2) dropped one notch to eighth. Continuing its downward descent, Indiana (12-2) also fell one rung, to ninth. North Carolina (13-3) placed 10th, barely behind Indiana. Other first-place ballots went to llth-ranked U.CJLA- four, 12th- place Kansas State, two, and 16th- spotted Washington, two. Salem Skiers In Race Wins Both , Bob Odle and Harold Goheen, Jr., of Salem's Santiam Ski club came home from Hoodoo Bowl with wins as a result of ski ing in the All-Oregon Class C and Junior Men tournament Sun day. Final compilations of times disclosed Tuesday that Odle won the Class C Men's race and Goheen copped first in the Junior Men's derby. The tournament was sponsored by the Tri-Pass Ski club of Eu gene. SOFTBALL SEASON EYED HUBBARD The Whiskey Hill Softball Association held Its first 1950 meeting Tuesday evening, Jan. 17. Plans were started for the coming season. A Junior league will be formed this year and the Senior league will be continued. Anyone in this vicinity inter ested in entering a team in either league is invited to attend the next meeting to be held at the Whiskey Hill school, Tuesday evening, Jan. 31, at 8 o'clock.
