At this meeting the newly elected off icers will t-ssume their duties. The Sweet Home Rock and Min eral society is planning a trip to the coast for Saturday, January 28. It the weather is favoraMe mem bers of the organization will leave here early Saturday morning for Yachats where they will spend they will visit beaches as far north as TafL . - Robert Derby, who has been in the marines for the past year, has received his discharge and arrived at his home here last week. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Derby. Mr. and Mrs. James LaFond are the parents of a baby girl, Bernie Sue, born at the Langmack hos pital Saturday morning. Jack Roberts, formerly of Rob erts Brothers grocery, has purchas ed the Len Mitchel clothing store. Mitchel and family will remain in Sweet Home until school is out. Then they will go to Stayton where he has a clothing store. The Sweet Home Woman's club Is scheduled to jneet at Timber land Manor orj January 24 at 8 p.m. William Meeks has been ap pointed to the Sweet Home city council to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of E. C. (Bud) Banke who resigned his position because he Is moving to his new home two miles east of town. Wives of Rotarians are to be guests at a dinner slated for Feb. 7 at Skyline Inn. Charles Mit chell was elected for a three year term; William Bohle and Leo Hobin, two year terms, and Earl Schackmann and Cash Bryant, for one year terms. All but Hobin are Lebanon men. Hobin lives in Sweet Home. The directors appointed Huston Walters president of the Wrangler association; Roy Fitzwater, vice president; Vern Reeves, secretary, and R. C. Reeves, treasurer. Power Lines Thought Cut By Airplane SUteamaa Newt Service LEBANON Several power lines, which may have been slashed by a low-flying airplane, disrupted power in the Stayton, Scio, Crabtree, Sublimity, Shell burn, Kingston, and Lyons areas Sunday and Monday. The power lines were cut where they cross South Santiam river about three miles north of Crab tree. The break occurred where they wing high over the river at mid-stream. The break, coming at about 10 a.m. Sunday, affected about 600 families and the West ern Veneer company plywood plant at Griggs about three miles northeast of Lebanon. Four 7,200-volt lines cross the river and three were cut, said Willard Grant, district manager of the Linn and Marion county areas of .the Benton-Lincoln Electric Co-op. Harold Jones, owner of the Western plywood plan and How aid Hevlin, superintendent, told Grant that they had seen a plane plying over the river Just prior to the time of the break. Power crews were repairing the break Monday and service had been restored to the private resi dents early Monday morning. Service to the veneer plant is ex pected to be restored today. Next meeting will be on January 27, weather permitting. The 4-H Sewing club, 1A and IB, known as the Willing Workers club, met last week with their leader, Mrs. Charles Sarver. Other officers named at the recent annual re organization meeting included vice president, Mrs. Wayne Grod- rian, and secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Austin Sanford. Mrs. Lawrence Lierman was named program chairman for the year. The group will meet February 1 at the home of Mrs. Dale Lamar, Jeffersen Mrs. George Davis is home and able to be up following a major operation performed at Salem Memorial hospital about two weeks ago. Four Corners Robert Cable, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Cable, 370 S. Elma ave., underwent sur gery, at the Salem General hos pital last week. He will remain in the hospital several weeks. e . - .. Buelah Moore, state lecturer, will be here from her home at Pregon City to present the prize to Miss Porter. A 6:30 o'clock no host dinner has been arranged for the occasion, which is also Miss Porter's birthday. Mrs. Porter's mother, home economics club chairman, is in charge of dinner arrangements. Mrs. Conrad Johnson, lecturer, is arranging the program which will follow and which will feature Mrs. Moore as speaker. Keizer Dinner Tonight To Aid Boy Scout Statesman Irrwf Service KEIZER A no-host dinner and program wil be held by the Com mercial club at the Grange hall Tuesday night, January 24, from 9 to 9 o'clock. Mrs. Braden was carrying her small daughter when she slipped and fell on a downtown Salem street Mrs. Braden received bruises but the baby's left leg was broken just above the ankle.
