Lifting of hedges against export sales of cash wheat helped this delivery, as did another boost in the government's export sub sidy rate late yesterday. Wheat closed IV lower to higher, corn was -l lower, oats were unchanged to Vt lower, rye was 1-1 lower, soybeans were lower and lard was un changed to S cents a hundred pounds lower. Stock Market Regains Loss Of Last Week NEW YORK, Jan. 2WVThe stock market this week doggedly regained almost all of the ground lost in the Jan. 12 selling smash. At the closing bell on Saturday prices, on average, ell Just short of the 3 -year high trst set on Jan. 11. The price level curved higher every day in the week. The week's upward path was a rocky one from a news standpoint. Of immediate concern was the fur ther spread of the coal strike until around 100,000 miners, out of a to tal working force of about 480,000 men, were out of the coal pltes. The market's behavior on Sat urday was typical of most sessions during the week. For the first half of the two hour session, a gentle decline set in with most losses restricted to fractions. In the second half de mand perked up for a carefully selected group of securities. The Associated Press average of 60 stocks advanced .2 of one point to 73.2, which compared with the 3 -year high of 73.4 hit of Jan. 11. Turnover amounted to only 550, 000 shares, smallest for any Sat urday since Nov. 26, compared with 1,180,000 a week ago. Recent discoveries indicate the blood is full of small clots which are normally absorbed but which may cause a serious condition if they are not. Umbrella Holders ! Prompt Questions DENVER -UP)- In Pioneer days, it was the gunmen of the west who gave trouble. Now it is umbrella men. says Robert C. Davis. Davis is regional engineer of the U. S. Geological Survey. In the summer time he has 50 to 100 survey crews working. The hot sun in varying density of atmos phere causes refraction. So each crew which works with spirit level has a man to hold an um brella over the level. Trouble comes, Davis says, when we have to explain why we hire men to hold umbrellas over other. men."
